Sujet Need Setup Help!!!!!

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

The Background: I've been learning DJing and VDJ over the course of the past 2 yrs. My friends recently opened up a neighborhood tavern.

The place is equipped with 4 Peavy tops, self-powered (12" or 15"s, plus the horns on top.)..... I then have 4 SETS (left/right) of 1/4 inch plugs

coming out of these Peavy speakers as of now, going into NOTHING. This is ALL THAT IS THERE AS OF NOW........I have a Hercules

Control Steel (the RMX, minus the soundcard) along with a Numark DJiO soundcard with Left/Right RCA's coming out of it, going into my home

practice speakers. I want to transfer my setup, (PC, RMX, Soundcard to the bar to play).........Question: What EXACTLY do I need to

send the 4 sets of 1/4 inch speaker cables into,... that in turn, my left/right RCA's, (out of the soundcard can then go into to, to then be able

to DJ off of this setup?
......I am aware that the connections are "unbalanced,"(the RCA's) and that this setup is Very basic and not "ideal."

I also realize that that the speakers NEED TO GO INTO SOMETHING BEFORE the sound card to protect them, (gain wise, from being

damaged.) What do they NEED TO GO INTO FIRST, with the 4 sets of 1/4 plugs off of the speakers?..... An external mixer????......I

realize that I plug into the "LINE OUT" with my soundcard, but what does it, (soundcard) need to plug into?.....Looking for a, bare bones setup

for now,..... what am I looking for? What other equipment do I need to bridge the gap between the 4 sets of 1'4 plugs coming off of the

speakers and my 1 set of RCA's out of my soundcard?
........Please be specific guys, I've never done this (a basic club setup)

before????.......Thank you family, =D

First of all, it seems a little odd that each of these speakers has a 1/4" jack plugged into it for an input.

I would've expected each pair to be linked together, so that you have two inputs (a.k.a. stereo) going into a pair, and the other pair are 'looped through' to the first pair (the first ones feed the second ones) with a link cable. Loop out from the first, in to the second.

That way you've only got to deal with connecting RCA to jack, and you can buy a suitable cable.

As it's currently set up, you'd need to split each RCA output (one left, one right) into two with an adapter or Y cable, so you end up with four connections, one to feed each speaker.

Same deal though, you need to buy RCA-to-jack cables to do the actual linking.

So RCA male on one end (to connect to the DJIO output) and jack one the other. If the cables from the speakers end in MALE jacks, you'll need FEMALE jacks on the end of the RCA-to-jack cables that you buy. If they're FEMALE, you'll need MALE....

Powered speakers should have XLR "in & out" so you can daisy chain. Sounds like all you need is a small 4 channel Behringer or Mackie mixer and (2) 1/4" to XLR and (2) XLR cables. The mixer will allow you to regulate the sound like you mentioned.
Sounds like a cool gig, I wish you luck with the new venture!

Why does he need a mixer if he's already got a Control Steel and a DJIO?

Also the DJIO has RCA outputs so 1/4" to XLR won't be much use!

So the way that I understand things, if the speakers are passive, I would need and amp to a mixer to my soundcard...... If the speakers are

active, I only need to wire them to a mixer and then plug my soundcard into the mixer using y splitters that will allow my RCAS (off of the

soundcard) to plug into the XLR mixer inputs, correct?......How do I determine how many channels I need?

Yes about the powered.... sound card to RCA Y-split into a mixers "IN" and then your 1/4"-to-XLR out to left & right speaker then daisy chain speakers 3 & 4.
Thats how I've done it, but doesn't mean its the only way.
You need to determine what these speakers are first!

i got this in a pm, and im under the impression the speakers have "only" 1/4" jacks... therefore they cant be powered as they would need to have a power supply to be powered surely?

someone above mentioned if they were powered, they wouldhave to have xlr connections, this is also untrue as not all powered speakers have xlr connections, some have 1/4 jacks and some have bind posts.

this taken into consideration it is my view that an amp is all that is needed to get this system pumping.
