Sujet: Tips for mixing 100% on a LapTop

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Can anyone give me any advice for mixing completely with a laptop?

I am going to manually beatmatching. I have mapped the pitch fader and the nudge to keys on the keyboard. This should work out fine right?

All tips are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! Any and All ADVICE!!!!!!!

In my (somewhat limited) experience, its possible, but you'll find you end up needing two hands, and one mouse just isn't enough. And VDJs virtual crossfader is quite mechanical compared to sliding a real crossfader...

I ended up buying a cheap soundcard and cheap two channel mixer, spending no more than £100 on extra hardware and cabling. This leaves one hand free to work the lappy loading and cueing tracks, and another to concentrate on crossfading, and adjusting levels on the mixer.

Mapping is your friend here. I've mapped all sorts to keyboard button presses, choosing effects, turning them on and off, and adjusting, buttons to adjust the pitch quickly, another to adjust it precisely (by +-0.05%!), buttons to enter loops, adjust loops, all sorts.

Given that you can map Shift, Ctrl, AND Ctrl+Shift, thats about 300 different functions you can map - keyboard shortcuts FTW - you'll just need quite a memory to remember how you configured it!

Try learning some simple VDJScript - see here: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript

Made my life much easier...

If you want to keep things simple & on a limited budget, how about something like a Numark DJ2Go? They're around £40 here in the UK, so they're probably DIRT cheap in the states! For that you get a pair of simple jog dials, two pitch faders, a crossfader and some knobs & buttons. I bought one as a backup, and it works fine, basic, but does what it says on the tin...

And it's fully mappable to VirtualDJ Pro.

An absolute bargain and functional too. It also includes VDJ LE Lite in the UK.

I'm actually saving up for a professional kit and vdj pro. In the meantime I would prefer to use VDJ Home and my laptop to mix. It's only going to take a few months for me to be where I wanna be.

So all tips appreciated in mixing with JUST a laptop and keyboard. I have a MacBook Pro and do not use a mouse

Mike - I've started to map stuff out and it's going well. The mapping process itself is what caused me to post asking for advice

It's kind of tough to configure a mixer to a MacBook keyboard
