Ok so here is my issue:
I bought a Vestax Typhoon and hooked it all up... downloaded the proper ASIO driver....everything on screen works with the controller....volume goes up and down, cross fader goes back and forth....BUT the volume does not actually go up and down and fader does not fade from deck to deck. it will play 1 song at a time but if I start the other track it shuts the other off...
sorry if my explanation is confusing its hard to describe in words...
any help or ideas?

Make sure the Typhoon Sound Card is not the default sound card of your computer.
Follow the setup instructions http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Typhoon.html
If you use the ASIO4ALL driver you will need to unistall the Typhoon ASIO and make sure the ASIO4ALL is properly configured (see the notes on the bottom the page above), and the Typhoon provides 4 out channels

I'm having the exact same issue but on my
Mac! Virtual dj when using the Mac is working fine but once I plug in my Vastex typhoon controller, the volume isn't working and neither is the cross fader... help please.
