Hey I'm a frequent DJ but only recently got Pioneer CDJ-800's and a Pioneer 500 mixer, and I was wondering if you could connect these CDJ's to virtual dj on a laptop for song choices etc as I don't like having to burn so many CD's...

You can use them via timecode CD to control song playback in the full VirtualDJ Pro. However, you can't select and load songs from your library using them. This is only possible with a MIDI or HID controller such as the newer models of Pioneer CDJ.
