Hi Everyone,

This is a translation of http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/190986/Greek_Forum/MIDI_Clock___Live_Api___get_bpm_.html as I didn't found an answer on the Greek Forum (yet) and wanted to ask you all for your thoughts and ideas :)

Firstly I want to mention that I really love v8 of Virtual DJ and that it has covered a huge way to perfection. I am also an owner of Traktor, Serato and Cross Mixvibes and very disappointed that all of these luck simple MIDI support as MIDI CLOCK output (Traktor does but we all know its disadvantages).

so...

I am looking desperately a way to 'talk' to other programs and the first thing I need is BPM output.
I had a look on waveclock (http://www.wavesum.net/products.html) and before I get into the buying process I made a MAX patch (http://cycling74.com) which btw works perfectly, as to see how easy / hard would it be an implementation of this ability :

The only thing I need now is to get a string or a number from VDJ the BPM variable but after a thorough look couldn't find any other solution than creating a Custom device that sends these to an IAC Driver.

1. I am in Mavericks 10.9.4 so how to find the SysEx ID of an IAC Bus 1 virtual device? Is that even possible?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<device name="MYCONTROLLER" author="Me" type="MIDI" decks="2" sysexid="F07E??06020001020304" drivername="IAC Bus 1">
???
</device>

2. How to create/setup a HID/Midi device for IAC Driver as to get variables like 'get_bpm' output in ASCI?

any ideas / solutions would be really welcome :)

Thank you for your suggestion but I think I posted in the Max Technical Forum as it is more a technical question and seeking for a guru answer but feel free to move it there if you think it is more appropriate ;)

As a follow back, red a bit more on .xml controller specifications and found that sysexid is optional.
As a result I managed to create a device that talks to the midi driver and now I can play by sending anything I want to Ableton through midi, even MIDI CLOCK by reading the get_beat_counter variable :))) Any other ideas are always welcome...

Tada!!! Figured everything out :)

As being the first one giving a full proof solution in the whole DJ community I accept Congrats and work proposals :P
Virtual DJ 8 -> Max -> Ableton (or any other software)

Also working on a device that will directly output any variable from VDJ to Any other Software without the need of a middle-man.

Check for more here http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/190986/Greek_Forum/MIDI_Clock___Live_Api___get_bpm_.html and if you need a translation or have questions feel free to ask...

cheers

Hello

I am looking to expand my dj environment, currently I run Virtual DJ with a Hercules 4-mx. Works great.

But i want to look at getting a Novation Launchpad to run with Ableton. I would want this to be syned with Virtual DJ, and output its audio to a separate deck in Virtual DJ. I want to be able to launch clips and audio samples from ableton using the launchpad, on the downbeat as provided by Virtual DJ's beatgrid

This looks like it would do what I need it to with regards to the midi sync, can you explain how it works? I'm not great with computer code etc so a "lamens" guide would be helpful!
