Sujet: Karaoke with single display and VirtualDJ remote?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

The idea is to have less stuff to carry around. A TV, an Intel Stick PC (Intel Atom win 10 computer), Android tablet with the remote on. I know I can get the karaoke window on the same display as virtualDJ, but can I configure it to continuously cover the virtualDJ UI while controlling it remotely?

I donk think your going to get very good results with a Intel atom stick pc, the graphics performance is probably limited and the atom cpu is really designed for 'light weight" applications

Consider an Intel i3/i5 compact laptop, and you van get some very thin and light monitors/tv' now, or if your looking for big screen maybe a projector.for karaoke its always good to have a reasonable hardware microphone mm mixer

Well, my initial search for Atom and VirtualDJ did give the impression that there where several persons who successfully did run VDJ on this platform even some years ago (i.e. when the Atom CPU was less capable that today). And since the stick PC appears to be capable of running 1080p video, at least I would guess it possible. But then again, that's why I put this question out, anyone having any experience of the stick PC platform?

And, regarding mixer, mikes etc, all that stuff is managed by my PA system, so that is not an issue, other than being able to pull the audio through the USB port of the stick using an USB audio interface.

Just tried, and running 2 videos with an Atom X5 Z8300 seems to run not too bad, especially when enabling dxva in options.

Sounds great. I would expect karaoke (mp3+G) to tax a tad lower, since it should be of less work for the CPU..?

I Guess the atom is a little more capable these days.... last time I came across them they were dual core, I see now that they are now quad core, the screen refresh for VDJ is faster for the skin, than normal video, not sure what speed the second window runs at for Karaoke, in any case you can limit the screen refresh for VDj.

and of course the atom now has intel hd graphics on most versions !

would be interesting to see what results you get when its all up and running ....

I just checked this out, because it sounds good. However, I like to get the opinions of people that actually own it. So I looked here, for the 1 star reviews. I don't care about the 5 star reviews, because obviously everything is working for them. I look at them after, I look at the bad reviews. This gives me something to compare, because generally, people that are happy tend to use the product in a limited form. I also check out the professional reviews first, because these people know more than I do. Here's one, and another. This may actually work for you. I think I will wait for the MK2 version.

@A man and his music:

Yeah, I've read those as well, making me a bit reluctant. However I think most of these reviews (with the exeption of the Wifi/Bluetooth issues) comes from the fact that people don't understand that this is not a full-fledged desktop computer. It lacks in memory and resources, it runs a resource-optimized version of Windows (10 is better than 8 in that case). The most positive reviews has been in the area of using it as a HTPC, which more or less is what one do when using VDJ for karaoke or any other music-oriented application.

And, the next generation of the Atom platform will indeed have a better chipset (still 4 cores, 32-bit OS due to single memory channel), and will most probably be more expensive (The ASUS Vivostick speals against this though, but it isn't out yet although it has been presented since september...?), while the 1st gen devices will propable go down in price.

But, as you say, perhaps it is a better option to wait a bit, unless more evidence of 1st gen sticks being sufficient will emerge. These new sticks should arrive during Q1/Q2 2016.

Tomas
