aside from posting this in the wrong spot...
couldn't make it through first 30 seconds before having to skip forward. got to 1:08 and ten seconds later my ears shut down in self-defense.
try playing this in a strip club and the dancers will beat you with their heels and NOT in the good way.

phrasing goes entirely wrong and to my tastes, as welcome as a fart in a space suit, sorry.

I felt sorry for Adele, she used to be a good singer, however the American DJ, and his accent was quite cool.
Also I did check my wallet, just to make sure no one had sold me something without my noticing.
I'm old, and force feeding people with shots is against my own unique religion.
I'm only a mobile, so I'm probably wrong about the shots shots shots shots shots shots shots shots ..thing.

I listened to it and I can say that I don't recommend playing that anywhere ever. Seriously man, let me explain.
1. Intro was way too busy. Vocals over vocals and other loud noises just clashes and makes a busy mess that nobody can understand. Put that on loud speakers and peoples ears will hurt! Less would be more in that intro.
2. Learn to find the down beat (1st beat of 4). In this case your loop might be on the wrong 4 beats out of 8, I could not really make sense of it. But Loco is right, the beats are just off. They need to be in time, not just synced.
This is partially VDJ's fault for not indicating the down beat correctly more often than not. So you as a DJ have to figure that part out. Google "find the first beat of a measure in a song" a measure being 4 beats, then repeat. But many songs loop on 8 beats and not 4, you need to consider that when lining up different songs.
When you are 4 beats off on two songs, it kind of creates a "rise and fall" feel to the mix. One song is peaking on 4 beats, then falling on the next. While the other songs enrgy peaks out of sync with the first. I hear something like that in your mix. Then melody trends down (key and energy) while Adel powers out of the background every few beats. Listen for it
I hope this helps you a bit in your journey.

This is getting to be like the X Factor. Who wants to be Simon Cowell ?
Next.
Note: I'm interested in the content whilst others have gone for technique. To be honest, I never even bothered with the phrasing. Hm..there is possibly something to be learned.

It is a hard thing to learn from just reading. I learned from a veteran DJ friend. Never heard him play out, but he had a great way of explaining things.
We also have a whole section to this forum dedicated to learning. It has some good stuff, but I did not see anything about the "prasing" as you called it (pretty good description, I like it). They get more into how to count out the song.
Maybe the best bet for the OP is to set a 4 beat loop. Play it and see if the melody (ignore vocals for now) sounds like the song is endlessly playing, or if it seems chopped. Then play and 8 beat loop, does the playback sound more smooth? That could help show you if it loops on 4 or 8 beats, which could help you decide on the right "phrasing"

Maybe this is beat phasing, but with a little extra technique.
Posté Wed 23 Dec 15 @ 12:30 pm
Mixing is not just about beats, "phrasing" is a well known, and important concept. If that has not been made clear in this forum then that needs rectifying.
I don't think this would help with phrasing.

A phrase is likely to be around 32 beats, or even more.

If you are an EDM guy, then you may actually have 32 beats to loop. Full song mashups too. Top 40 mixes (blends), you never really get that space.
Either way, there are more basic fundamentals broken here and I was offering general advice.

You can often create space in a top 40 song by using sample sets, and inserting something like a kick drum, and hi hat. That gives the chance to set the phrasing up well. You would insert the kick at the beginning of a phrase, and suitably fade the first songs bassline. Later when the bass of the second song comes in you would fade the sampler kick drum, possibly leaving a clap or hi hat in the mix for yet another phrase. Of course it is expected that everything is beat synced. It ends up sounding a little like two Mastermix songs with DJ friendly intro, and outro.
Note: You can even leave the kick drum, or whatever running through a few suitable top 40 songs.

WARNING : I forgot to mention that you should make sure your beatgrid is spot on before using the sampler.

Yes, you are absolutely right! He needs to add more crap to that mix! That will fix the fact that there is already too much going on and off beat.
Really dude? Who are you trying to impress? You had no helpful advice before my post.

I'm not talking about his mix, I'm pointing out what phrasing is about, which you don't seem to know, and how you could, if you wanted mix top 40 songs.
I've just suggested an option, but you can mix two top 40 songs in anyway you wish.
I'm not trying to impress anyone, I'm way beyond those kind of childish games.
However I'm a little worried that people who wish to learn may be misled.

I read all the comments first, thought "it can't be that bad" then had a listen...
Oh dear.
I suppose nowadays, when pretty much anyone can "produce" a track, due to the ease of doing everything "in the box" on some computer software, it's inevitable that there will be an abundance of distinctly average tracks. This is not one of them. This is way below that! This is "go away, learn some techniques, and come back in a few years" level.
Lesson to be learned: Just because you can loop a few samples and stick a beat behind it, doesn't mean you should. :-)

Laughable dude, why becuase I didn't know the specific term for it? I was the one who described it.

Mom! Dad! STAAAHHHP... it's Christmas and the OP has slunk away into a corner.
just leave a link to the discussion on the youtube comments and go back to the eggnog.

Lol, not mad. I wanted to help! Seems like wanting to help is what causes fights on here.
Seriously guys, why the hell do some people just want to fight on here. That is why I hate this forum and most DJ forums. Just so predictable, guess I will just go back to reading again.

Obviously he just wanted to promote his mix and placed some clickbait.
I was just about to report this as Advertisement but then I remembered there is a music discussion forum for this.
Sadly, it wasn't moved yet...
