Please clear this up for me.

a) What does it mean when a DJ does a "high hat ride or a clap"

b) Also what does it mean when a DJ chase patterns when he plays?

thanks.

Please put this into context. Where have you heard these terms?

A high hat is a cymbal. A ride is also a type of cymbal. A clap is....well, a clap. These are not things that a DJ "does". They're typical sounds used in the production of a track. But maybe whoever said this is talking about overlaying samples of a high hat, ride or clap onto an existing track. That could be something a DJ does.

Context required.

It was about "what do you do as your music is playing"..

b is known to me as a scratch term for when you're learning, realistically any practice of cue juggling, loop roll drumming or bouncing around a track with beat jump could be pattern chasing.

A could be scratching too.
