I have a MacBook Pro with 16 GB memory and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB running Sierra 10.12.2.
When I do Command Tab during a gig to another program, my external/second display now loses the video from VDJ and goes to a background picture. If I Command Tab back to VDJ, the video on the external/second display goes right back to the video from VDJ.
It worked for two years on this MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

There is an option "video always on top" or something similar. Make sure that is set to yes.
