Sujet Help choosing a controller please.

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi Guys,
Ok I am satisfied now that VDJ8 is the best option for my needs. I now need to make a decision regarding a controller.
Here is the list I am now considering in order of preference at this moment. All prices are AUD.
I am a mature age dude, am starting out DJ'ing private parties mostly, but will do weddings, bars, corporate as well.
I also do Karaoke using another software platform specifically for Karaoke. And am also a solo singer, guitarist.
I have been doing freebies for friends and family and want to take it to the next level.

Reloop Mixon 4, comes with Serato DJ - $ 799

Second Hand Pioneer DDJ SX2, comes with Serato DJ - $ 850 (would expect to get it at least $50 cheaper).

Reloop Touch. comes with VDJ8- $ 899

The first 2 I would have to purchase VDJ8 Infinity as well which is $300 US which translates to $390, OUCH!!!!
Wow that's insane! I didn't really think about the conversion before. I wish more decks came with VDJ8, or maybe better, come with no software to keep the price down, and for people to have a better choice. Maybe I could use Djay Pro until I am making some money, it's only $50. Or if I buy the Pioneer I could mix in the online content using my phone connected to one of the channel inputs.

Any way appreciate your comments.
Cheers,
Ken.

I am interested in the Reloop Touch. There are things I don't like about it such as the 12v power supply as opposed to a direct mains connection cable, and the lack of xlr outputs is a bit off putting. However if the screen can be used like the VDJ remote xy effect pads then that's a huge plus. Another huge plus is the potential to use the two fader banks to control the sampler group volumes. VDJ is expensive so that getting a free copy is great. I've got a DDJ SX which I don't often use since I prefer the XDJ R1. Therefore I would put a question mark on the DDJ SX2..but it is Pioneer with lots of flashing lights.

Hm I'd want to know about the effect xy pads, and if I could map the sampler..if so I'd get the Reloop, and later buy a second hand Pioneer.

There is something funny about the AUD prices..in the UK the Touch is £620 (with VDJ), and the DDJ SX2 is £879. As such the Touch wins hands down.

My suggestion would be - if by purchasing one of these controllers, you won't be able to buy VDJ, then just buy a cheaper controller for now. Make owning VDJ the priority, because once you've bought it, it's yours for life. No further cost. Plus it does most of the work anyway when used with a controller.

Even controllers half the price of those you mentioned will have the same basic features for DJing.

Consider the setup like a car. VDJ is the engine. The controller is just the driving seat (or maybe the steering wheel). :-)

Yes and I don't like the dual purpose EQ / Filter set up either, (the low EQ & Filter sharing the same knob), I'd prefer the extra knobs.
Also no cross fader curve adjustment switch. Jog wheel position. No hardware inputs.

The Pioneer was second hand, new price is $1325.

Considering that, there is a second hand Traktor s4 available for $250.

Or I could get a Gemini G4V new for $469 comes with VDJ8 LE. But add $390 for the Pro version and it becomes not worth it at $859 all up.
I have looked at that controller and just think it looks a bit cheap / below average quality.

What would you think about the Traktor s4?

Kenny Speed, You could always start out with the monthly Pro subscription. My self I am a working DJ so it's just a cost of doing business...and a tax write off!! I am partial to the Numark stuff, have you looked at the NVII? I run the Original NV with VDJ8 and love it!!

Thanks guys for all your valuable insights, I really appreciate it.
Something I will say, that VDJ has a great community, very active and willing to assist.

Having seen the Reloop Touch video in another thread I am all the more closer to deciding on that one.
Mainly because if I consider the software will cost me $390 AUD standalone. That means at $899 AUD all up for the touch the controller, in comparison to others I am considering, (which are bundled with software that I don't want), becomes $509 AUD controller, $390 AUD software.

Instead of for instance, the Reloop Mixon 4, which I probably prefer, but it is $799 AUD with Serato DJ. Plus then I buy VDJ8 @ $390 AUD = Total $1189.
Thats $290 AUD extra which I don't think I can justify.

And comparing the secondhand S4. It's $250 AUD + VDJ8 $390 AUD = $640 AUD.
It's then $259 AUD for the Touch which I think is probably justifiable?

I think the main thing that would sway me either way now is the licence situation with the touch. I have been told by "Man and his music" the licence is NOT transferable if you sell the touch controller. So I assume then that the licence remains with you for life allowing it's use with any controller. I this is the case then the touch becomes favoured. I am waiting for confirmation of this on another thread.

Cheers.

No VDJ license is transferable.
