Sujet: Sound distortion when changing pitch - Page: 1
I have a problem with VDJ that came out of nowhere. The other night I was playing and the left deck started to sound distorted any time the pitch was changed. The sound would be normal as long as it was at the original pitch, but as soon as the bpm was moved up or down it started to distort. This audio shows how it sounds when the bpm changes up or down:

The issue only happens on the left deck, I have switched to deck 3 and it happens the same way. I have a DDJ 1000 controller. The last change I remember making was to allow early releases in order to try out stems 2.0, I have tried to turn that option off, and it does not fix the problem.

THanks in advance.

Do you get the same issue if you change the bpm using the pitch slider on the skin rather than the controller?
Just to rule out if its the controller and not VDJ?

And I take it, it works fine without the controller connected?

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try without the controller connected. Just virtual dj and it is not related to the controller. It happens with using the skin controls for pitch and the computer sound card. It only happens on the left side deck, or deck 1 / 3.

Another thing. If I turn off "master tempo" the problem goes away, of course that is not a solution as doing that changes the key when the pitch is moved. Just giving more info in case the VDJ team knows what is going on.

Another update: Now the deck 3 is fixed. It is only doing it on deck 1. It happens with a controller connected or stand alone. Can someone from support please let me know if they know or not know anything about this.

In the german forum someone write the same. He use a MacBook Pro 2020 OS Ventura 13.1.
He has fixed be deleting the Settings.XML
Please cut/paste the Setting.XML to a backup place.
After this start VDJ and test again.

HERE THE SOLUTION:
1: Left corner press the settings button.
2: Select “Option”
3: Click on “Controls”
4: Turn “masterTempo from ‘Yes’ to “NO”

did this help? I'm having the same issue. Hi pitched noise on Deck 1only

I am running macOS Sonoma 14.0 and the latest virtual dj software

I cant find that setting.

Has anyone fixed this or figured this out. I'm getting it not only on deck 1, but now deck 2 as well.

Give us some details.

Are you using a Mac? What's your pitch quality setting? Did you try any of the above suggestions?

To those wondering if "this worked" I can say it did for me. MacBook Pro 2020 Intel 2.0ghz A2251.

Under /Users/jasongrove/Documents/VirtualDJ/ "I renamed settings.xml to :settingsxml.old" and when I reloaded, the skin and interface were defaulted so I had to recurse the music and change the skin but finally.... YES... Deck A no longer has the distortion... Odd too because only this Deck had the issue and it's not too complex someone else couldn't have figure it out....

I say this because it's been like that for a long time now but I gave up caring... searching for solutions... I did go back after the change and check the settings in tempo, master tempo, pitch quality, latency... and they were unchanged... master was still on, quality at 3.

When I closed out of VDJ I went back to see if I new "settings.xml" was created and it wasn't...

So I'm guessing it's an issue with people who merge their VDJ from PC to Mac and maybe macOS version doesn't use the file or maybe either platform no longer uses it... Hard to say but it was causing something to hiccup and all is normal now...

It worked for me and I thank the person who posted the response related to "settings.xml." By no means am I an expert nor do I talk down to others... Forums exist for everybody to help, not scrutinize. For all I know, this may not fix everybody's issue and it may have been overlooked this entire time... meaning, only affecting those who copied their /documents/VirtualDJ folder over from a PC.... a limited group of people.

It never made sense that only Deck A suffered this issue.... The solution to turn off Master Tempo was not a solution... it was a lame workaround. Temporary I could see.... But this program has been around since 2004 or earlier......

SOLVED IT!!!! Change pitchQuality option from 3-4 to 2 or 1.

I emailed them and they replied with this:

"This issue seems to be isolated to intel based macs running newer versions of Mac OS. In VDJ go to settings->options tab-> search for the option PITCHQUALITY and change from 2 to 1 (less resources needed) or 3 (more resources needed)"

Hi. I am curious - Was this happening randomly? I'm trying to figure out if this is the stems 2.0 or the tempo. I get distortion and if I touch the pitch fader it goes away. Very strange

had the same issue, updated from MBPro 2017 to MBAir 2020 and had randomly on any channel A/B/C/D any tune with metallic noise, happened on A/C or B/D at a time if A/C had the issue, B/D would work fine, or viceversa

at the beginning thought it was a build issue and downgraded from 8528 to 8472 but the issue continued

applied the PITCHQUALITY config and set it to 1, and so far works fine
