i just downloaded the trial 3.4 and everything works fine but the displays for bpm and time are all black. I have seen Virtual DJ at a friends and his version works.
Already tried various skins and settings to no avail.
Also there seem to be more persons with the same problem:

I would buy VirtualDJ but with an error like that i don't dare to... What's wrong?
Thanks

You need to analyse the tracks first. Otherwise, how will ANY software instantly know the bpm and duration of a track. You can analyse single tracks by right clicking and 'analyse' or full foders in the same way.
Classic case of RTFM
May I suggest this link :-

I just had to throw this in...
"Classic case of RTFM" why be so harsh?
I just thought I'd let you know that vdj ALWAYS analyses the song when loaded, if it hasn't yet been analysed manually.
Therefor if it is not giving a BPM reading, it is because the engine cannot detect a constant enough beat in the song. (Ex: Etta James - At Last) Or it's simply a software or hardware issue.
