Sujet DVD Ripping Program - Page: 1

Cette partie de ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes

I've seen all the recommended DVD ripping programs, and I've checked all of em out. The thing they all seem to be missing is an online database that will automatically enter the artist and track name prior to ripping the disc. On promoonly dvds, typing in each title is a very long process. What about the internal ripper from VDJ, how come the database isn't pulling any titles?

MPEG video files are not the same as MP3's you are ripping from a CD. MP3's have tagging info that is added to the file and because of an on-line database like CDDB it will automatically retrieve and store that info as you rip. MPEG videos don't have that option... yet anyways. Because of the early stages of having to rip videos from DVD's like Promo Only for DJ-ing purposes and because there is no one standard solution for ripping them, may be the reason it isn't possible now. Also some DVD's are set up like Promo Only where they are just tracked out by chapter according to when the actual song starts compared to when the video starts. Too many factors involved I think. I personally like to get a complete video ripped and not have it start the rip at the second chapter point where the song starts. ERG, VMS, TM Century, and other DVD subsription services geared toward the video DJ entertainment each have there own way of tracking and DVD authored structure as well. I just don't think it is a do-able thing to have it simply get the info and then hit rip. I have had to spend countless hours ripping and naming EVERYONE of my 3000 videos I have so far and even though it was a lot of typing and time. This is one of those things you just have to do if you want to have the videos in digital form for VDJ.

<sigh> that is what I feared...well I suppose I have a lot of work ahead of me! another question..why in DVDRipp do I get an error when trying to ripp a video? the whole promo dvd will ripp, yet maybe one track won't due to "error" and no other explanation. why is this?

I tried ripping my first dvd last night, and it came up with an error.
No explanation.

same here, the whole dvd ripped with the exception of the last track. "error" I don't get it!

we've had the same issues with the DVD ripper. error messages suck, but you can usually restart the computer and it will work. just make sure each and every dvd ripped gets its own folder in your video section otherwise they will just overwrite but still leave the tag info. talk about embarrassing.
VDJ needs a ripper with better file options, not just .vob, .divx, or .mpeg dont know why they havent done that.

strange...my dvd ripp only allows me to select vob, which is fine for me, but the other options are grey and won't let me select them (not that I would want to).

our options are grey too, but it would still be nice to have more control. know what i mean?

I gotchya man, we all pay the same for this program, why can't it be consistent among all users? and the reboot strategy for the error message doesn't work for me!

it aint perfect.. but it gets us by...

ripping dvd's from Promo Only (yeah yeah.. i know) has some serious issues, but just becoming familiar with the software looks like its not going to be enough. we're thinking about going for full redundancy - both .vob and .mpg/.avi for EVERY video. so we're looking at getting a few external drives. i'm just glad the club pays for all the equipment and not me. then again.. its nice to have that much power at a touch. they CAN hear me in the next town over if i crank it up.

Look at it this way, I have ripped 90+ PO videos and like you guys I was in the same situation, but once you get them all done and only have to do 1 or 2 discs a month it isnt as bad. Mind you I am using Smartripper and TMPEG Enc to do each track and name them as well as take them to 44,100 for use in my other system which is only 3.4. I do feel ya and it definately is a sigh of relief to be done with the majority.

we have other video issues goin on, but i've been dredging the tech forums for fixes. still trying to talk them into springing for a really good DVD rip program. its just me i guess, but i dont really trust freeware that much.

Honestly if you are ripping to VOB then Smartripper is what you need and you cant go wrong and it is free.

This ripper might not be the best. I only have one video on my computer, but I'll try ripping a few Promo only's with this one.

btw, I tried the mixing software, and it can't hold a candle to vdj!

smartripper huh? let's give it a spin!

Kizzle, you runnin 4.1 only or are you running both 3.4 and 4.1. The reason I ask is if you are running just 4.1 there is no need to resample the audio to 44,100, however if you use 3.4 as well you will need to resample the audio to 44,100.

nope, I only use 4.1. does that mean the DVD Ripp program (.vob) is fine for me to use? should I use smartripper (or anything else) to grab the vids that vdj won't ripp due to "error"?

I would say if you are only using 4.1 to use Smartripper to rip to .VOB then name them. That is it. There are some settings you need to follow and I will find them for you.
