We are all new to VDJ so post your tips and tricks here as you come across them.

Remember, that a manual beat tap is not going to be exact.. (it'll be very close tho) so when mixing a song that has been manually tapped, it will tend to go off a bit, and require some manual adjustment to the pitch!!

If vdj detects wrong the first bpm (the bigger mark under the wave) you can manually correct it from the "edit bpm" option.

what difference does the speed disc rotation speed make on the scratching performance??? and what kind of settings do you use?
--> Time stretch on/off?
--> Beatlock rigid/ elastic?

You can hit the same shortcut..
About rigid and elastic:
If you are in "elastic mode", it will resync on an internal clock (even if the other song is not playing). If you are in "rigid mode", it will resync on the other song, only if it is playing.

exit loop: you can make a new shortcut with action="loop" and value="0" in the shortcut editor.

Can you save the 'cue's in songs for later use?
Posté Fri 31 Oct 03 @ 5:34 pm
Sorry bout this but I'm a complete beginner...
Can someone explain the "elastic" and "rigid" beatlock thingy to me. So far "rigid" works the best but it's still not perfect.
Also can you increase the automatic mix time from 32 to a higher value.
And... (lol) whats the best settings for "Gain" with regards to AutoGain. I've had mixed results so far so I'm just wondering which is the prefered option.
And finally... (",) which produces best beat matching results is it with "Time Stretched" enabled or disabled. I could swear that when I enable it the beats go ever so slightly out of sync and I'm sure there's a small loss of performance as I've only got an AMD 900 Mhz with 192 Mb Ram.
Ah well - off for a wee mix or two. Please answer or point me in the right direction for a little info!

To afungusamongus,
Sure, when you create a cue, this cue are saved in the song :-)

First off, your machine is going to need at least 512 ram since the processor is that slow. Mine runs at 1ghz, and it would do ok with 256, but not when I tried to mix in mixing features (like cuts of lows, mids, highs; effects, samples) at the same time. It would cause the song to loop or pause for an instant, which really is unacceptable at a gig.
Timestretch is going to be more of a workload for a computer cause its readjusting the pich of the song (to keep it the same) when you move the tempo around. But its really nice to have on cause if your playing something that has vocals, its easy for the song to sound like its being sung by chipmunks if you stray more than 5-6% off the original tempo (without having timestretch on that is).
The big thing with the CBG (sync) is to have the correct BPM on each track your trying to sync as well as having the phase (the little marks below the beats of the track) correct (meaning the marks need to land on the beats). Then for little adjustments you just pitch bend when you need, and under rigid mode (for me anyways) the CBG sync won't undo your pitch bend (or try realigning itself).
