so i have looked for a esi u46dj..... can not get them anywhere...
do someone know of any other model usb sound card that i can use (with both inouts and outputs)
i have waited 2 months for the tcv to arrive... then spent the last week trying to get it all to work and now this!!!

There are plenty of good asio soundcards, depending on what connection you wanna use

USB card that work good :
- Maya44 usb

- Hercules (bit slow for superfast scratch)
and more

Firewire cards that work good:
- Prosonious Firebox
- Shaffire Le
- Edirol FA-66 , FA-101 and more
- Digidesign Digi 002 Rack
- Ego-Sys QuataFire 610
- Hercules 16/12 FW
- M-Audio FireWire 1814
- Terratec Phase 88 Rack FW
and more

PCI cards that works good :
- Delta 44 & 66, Delta 1010LT & 1010
- Soundblater X-FI platinum or elite
- Mayy 44 PCI
- Maya 1010
- Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinium Pro
- Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro
- Echo Layla 3G
- Ego-Sys ESP1010
- Ego-Sys WaveTerminal 192M
- Soundblaster E-MU 1820, 1820M
- Marian Marc 4 MIDI
- Terratec Phase 88 Rack
and lots more

PCMCIA cards that works good
- Soundblaster E-MU 1616M
- RME Audio Hammerfall DSP System

Generally speaking, almost any card that has two line ins in STEREO, and two line outs, will work, and has ASIO drivers its likely to work (with low latency drivers).

Those listed above are PRO cards, so some are damn expensive..
But get a card thats not the most expensive, but not the cheapest eather.

Soundblaster offers some good solutions for value.

dj in norway thank you thank you thankyou!!!
again i have so many questions!!
will the onboard cards drive tcv ..... is it a case of just having enough inputs and outputs and the asio drivers?
could i do it with a sound blaster 5.1 or 7.1.....
i have not seen any diagrams on how to set up with just one (pci?) card...
i was under the impression that it had to be usb to get tcvworking....
i know you can use vdj with a sound card a external mixer with one card
if this is the case i have seen plenty of maya 44 pci cards on the net and i will be getting one tomorrow...
again dj in norway you are a star... thank you very much
a happy irish dj!!

Onboard cards, I guess you by this mean laptop integrated audio cards?
Its as you say, it depends on enough inputs and outputs, and if it has native asio drivers.
Most onboard cards does not have this..

Even cards that does not have asio drivers can work pretty decent with timecode, using general asio drivers ( www.asio4all.com ), but still needs to have enough inputs & outputs.. And usually such cards have their own asio drivers.

You could do with a soundblaster 5.1 yes, BUT, is there one that has two line ins too?
I only know of Soundblaster X-FI (platinum and elite), which by the way works awesome for timecode.
Reported latency is super low with VirtualDJ.

You dont need USB, in fact, USB is really only for laptops.
If you use desktop, you could use PCI with advatage (less latency than USB).
The Delta44 from M-Audio is a good tested card by VDJ users, and is not too expensive.
Superlow latency too, lower latency than pro boxes (usb/firewire) that comes with competitor dj software (such as SSL box)
Or other PCI brands... Maya, Soundblaster, M-Audio, Hercules etc etc. :)
Look for ASIO drivers, and go for cards that arent the very cheapest (but you DONT need the most expensive studio card either..hehe)

Should be a diagram of setup, true..

one important thing :

- This is one thing that does comfuse some..

The two seperate line ins needed for timecode needs to be STEREO.

So cards that have two instrument or mic inputs will NOT work.
(mono)
