Sujet Can one play off of external hard drive?

I posted something similar to this earlier but wasn't quite clear on my intentions.
I want to plug my hard drive into a clubs computer and play my files straght off of my folders in my personal drive (USB 2.0). Does this work well? Are there any fallbacks or lag time problems?

It will work, but it has been known to have adverse effects on the system, slow response times, etc.

Have never done it myself but have about this around the boards.

No problems what so ever using an external drive - if you are using USB 2.0 then things should be no different then accessing files as if they are on an internal hard drive. My only concern would be if you are trying to load large remix tracks that are say 10+ min in length as the mp3 file would be of a larger size than a typical 3-4 min track.

Using external drive or second internal drive, actually improves system performance.
As it leave th windows/VDJ drive to be used for the program only

I have problems playing songs from the external Hard drive - both on 3.4 and 4.21

I have sound card set to stereo splitter.

when playing songs on the headphones(the listen menu) and moving the position of the song I get skipping for a few seconds on the main output.

If I play of my local hard disk all is OK.

the files are not large and I do not use video.

I have a brand new HP laptop - dv6000.
all drivers are the latest. same as for DX (actually I downloaded today the feb 2007 version).

any help?

it is 250 GB sata drive - usb2 nothing special.

can it be the soundcard? I am using the onboard soundcard for both preview and master.

I set the performence to faster. did all the tweaks I know for the XP OS.

can it be the antivirus?
