Sujet: simple bass remover

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I am using a ultra-light rig consisting of a 'tweaked' tablet PC, Hercules DJ console MKII, a 4 fan Laptop cooler, a UHF wireless mic, and an 80GB iPod (as a backup so I can run to my car to grab another laptop in case of catastrophic failure).

PROBLEM: I have new club gig that does NOT have a booth monitor. I was able to work around it by bringing my $300 Apple HiFi speaker with me. Yes it is a little OVERKILL but it works for now without splurging for a dedicated monitor.

All went well until later in the evening when I turned it up too loud and the speaker shut down. I thought I FRIED the HiFi, but later found it shut down for thermal protection and was fine the next day.

--> What I need to do is to find a way to cut the bass going into this speaker so that I can crank it up louder as the night goes on.

1. Does anyone know of a device that I can buy that will do this?
2. Anyone good with electronic circuits? I could whip a filter up with some radioshack parts and build an in-line bass filter.
3. Is there a booth monitor out feature for VirtualDJ and can the software strip the bass out just for this channel? Maybe I could use the onboard sound card?

The idea here is to carry as little as possible. I do not want to drag around a EQ just for a booth monitor! Anyone got any ideas or schematics?

Regards,
WirelessDJ

Nice compact set-up there!

I think your idea of making a filter might be best if you know how to.

Otherwise I guess you'd be just looking at a more powerful speaker. :)

Also, I don't have the mk 2 so I don't know, but if it has a "headphone split" fucntion, you could try using that. A "split-cue" style headphone setup is when one song comes out the left ear phone and another song comes out the right ear-phone, then you might not need a monitor so much!

Hope you come up with an answer to your problem. :)

Hey Wireless
Good to see you on this forum. It been a while I heard from you since the BPM Studio Days

If you are running useing the Ipod docking speaker like a booth speaker - does the ipod have to be hooked up for noise to come out - or does it have a line in?

i thought i saw some inline passive highpass filters that will plug inline on your input to the hi-fi. if i recall correctly, they were at partsexpress.com

No iPod needed. Apple HiFi has line-level input, optical-in, and iPod dock on the top. And also runs off of 8 'D' batteries (However, it is not as loud as when it is plugged into AC). It's a perfect little speaker for home and portable use.

High pass filter? Good idea! Anyone know how make one up?

No need to manufacture any. Like anewsome said, get inline highpass filters. They are usually RCA type. Try www.crutchfield.com. I think I saw them there at one time.
