Sujet: Anyone familiar with Deep Freeze?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I installed Deep Freeze on my parents computer because I am tired of fixing it.. lol Do I really need an anti virus program / anti spy program when I have Deep Freeze loaded on there? Anti-virus programs seems to slow the system down.

Yeah, I use NOD32 too. I can second it runs lite.

I would still have anti-virus installed and anti-spyware protection , because they may not be able to mess your machine up , but they may be able to steal details from you.

uuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh Trend Micro is good and only $50 ......Alwil is good and free .......

I have firm and we fix and maintain PC's in schools, firms and other. In school there is more then 60 computers, and you can imagine what kids do to them. We use Deep Freeze as a solution and it is PERFECT!
I tested it this way:
Started to delete Program Files, then Windows folder, then pull out the power cord! Then I tried to boot, and voila, everything was like before! You can't destroy system locked with this program, and you can't write new data on position where was anything you deleted. You can use D: partition to save your work while C: is locked for anyhing new. If you just move one icon on your desktop after restart it will return where it was.
And the answer is yes, you don't need any Antivirus for this setup, if you get infected, just reboot ;)
Remember that only locked partition is safe from viruses, it can still infect your other partition.
I also recommend NOD32 antivirus, but it is not enough these days as stand alone protection, I use Spyware Doctor in conjunction and it is killer combination!
Regards

Just to let you know met the uk manger of the company today at a tradeshow , you should not need antivirus protection or even antispyware software as it doesnt allow these programs to take root and when the machine restarts they are cleared.

Anti spyware/malware is just a important as Antivirus.

Antivirus software intercepts malicous software which is viral in nature, i.e. it attempts send/spread itself onto other machines.

Spyware/Malware can be just a damaging as Viruses are to your computer in terms of performance hits and/or damage, but it doesn't attempt to send itself on, hence it is not considered a virus and so not intercepted by Anti Virus software

But what happens if the computer is left on? Lets say you go to a site that has spyware or adware ... , (worse case scenario) doesn't that spyware have the ability so send out personal information if the computer in not restarted? They check there bank accounts and pay bills with this computer that's why this concerns me.

free.grisoft.com works well, for $0, yes $0 dollars..... Run Adaware from www.lavasoft.com once a month and it will cost $0 too....

when you set up AVG just tell it not to scan daily but it provides real time protection and updates everyday with new virus definitions

Adaware you have to do a manual update and scan but will get rid of junk too

i third the motion on NOD32, go with the majority of recommendations... having said that, i also have on other machines; PC Tools Spyware Doctor which also has a virus filter for a bit extra (think 49usd in total) and is also very excellent.

Alot of spyware particularly keylockers requires a reboot to take hold , and when the machine reboots it will be removed by deepfreeze

But i suppose, better safe than sorry , leave a copy of Spybot with resident protection enabled on the machine.

Thanks guys for your help.

Can someone explain to me what happened with my post here? I gave a very good explanation of Deep Freeze program and now it is gone?
