Looking at a serious career move, am thinking of quitting the UK and am looking at Dubai, anyone got any experience of the place with regards work etc, looking for basic info at the moment. I'm predominantly video based with well over 4000 videos, can also program DMX etc and have a wide amount of experience in lighting and lasers. Any info appreciated.

Think your first route is to google large hotels in the area Dion and look at there message boards, think it was last year I was directed onto one for another reason and the hotel manager at one was looking for a DJ, sorry can't remember which one but it's worth a punt, or check out any entertainment or employment agencies for the region... best of luck.
Just thought there are one or two of the guys working out there working on civils that have vdj may be able to help, check the region out on the satelite map and pm them.

I'm reading your message but I wish to tell you that at the moment "Users in your area" of VDJ site doesn't allow to look at user all around the world any longer!!
I can see only 500 users around my place, so I can't find users in Dubai, in America, in Australia because of my nationality:-(
I don't like this bond at all!!

nope can't get to see any users for that area, wonder if it has been disabled deliberately....

I think Paz75 (Exp.User) was working out there Dion, ( I may be wrong though) but he hasn't been on the forum for a very long time now. Maybe PM him, you never know, you might get a reply.

I prefered as VDJ site showed users in the map before changing on the website; that way allowed to me to looking for any user in the world.

If there aren't many out there, that may be a good thing! :o) More opportunities for me! Keep the info coming though if anyone has any, have also posted on a Dubai based forum but no replies as yet.

hi Tophouse-
great blogs ! As for ripping--I went to TMPGenc's site and the specs dont list VOB as an acceptable input...
also-- when you do rip VOB's --what format do you convert them to and why? Others on here say that VDJ can play vob's as is--so why convert. do u do it for space reasons?
thanks!

Any chance a mod can move this to it's own topic please?
TMPGenc DOES do vobs, and does them fine, VDJ plays vobs but i prefer my way, it does what i want and i save space yet with no noticeable difference in quality. I convert to 720 x 576 mpeg1 (pal) with 320k mp3 audio.

Did you know that if you look at one of their women, and lick your lips at the same time, they cut your penis off, with one of those big Ali Baba swords, in a stadium full of people. Now, a guy like me won't have a problem because I have enough to put on the chopping block. However, if you are a "Short Dick Man", and it's a little cold, and all those people are looking, well............ Houston, we have a problem. Since I suffer from the LL Cool J Lip Licking disease, I turned around, and got back on the plane.
On a serious note, didn't one of our DJs get locked up, for (allegedly) trying to bring some drugs into Dubai?

Nah they're like women, you give them an inch and they'll take a mile.
It is important that you observe the law before getting on a plane.
Things you might consider to be normal (in the UK) are not always considered to be normal over there.
They do make provisions and have areas that are more "westernized" than others, but on the whole you'll notice that the country implements strict laws surrounding alcohol, drugs, dress, theft, relationships etc. On the flip side crime rates are very low, although there is a significant terrorist threat.
The best thing you can do is read up on the details. see here:
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/travel-advice-by-country/middle-east-north-africa/united-arab-emirates
More specifically, it would be worth contacting some entertainment venues/agencies over the issue of music videos, it may or may not be a welcome addition to the show due to culture and trend.
Personally I think it would be a great opportunity to spend some time over there, and I hope you do.

I would LOVE to be out there! Maybe buy me an island or something.
It would be cool to have that as a stop on my tour for 2010. Thanks for bringing it up. If I can get any more info after talking with my agent I will give you a shout.
