First contact your reseller or WD and describe what happened, then decide what to do next.
They cannot recover data for you.

About a year ago I purchased a Seagate ext drive. After copying all songs etc
it lasted less than a week. Took it back to Best Buy and they just gave me a new drive.
They could not (or would not) get all my info back.
So I would say that depending on the age of the drive, the place where you
bought it might be able to just swap it for a new one.
Worst case the mfg will replace it.

Can anyone tell me about online storage? If someone could give me names of websites I could go to that we be very helpful.

Microsoft offer a free service called Mesh. It automatically synchronizes files between your computers but additionally, these files are held on their servers for free. They give you a 5GB allowance which won't be enough for everyone, but it's completely free!

Thank you Andrew. That's helpful, but I need at least 350 GB.

It may be worth noting that it would take you over a month 24/7 to upload that kind of data on a 1MB connection, where as it would take you only a few hours to do such a backup using Blu-Ray discs, DVDs or another system. Perhaps a dedicated computer for backups utilising RAID3.

Online storage for such a large amount of data can be quite costly, e.g. amazon:
http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

Thanks again man. I see what you mean as far as the cost goes.

hi, I've had this happen to me before. I now use Acronis and clone my dj laptop hard drive to and external hard drive 1-2 times a month.

Spend the extra dollars and buy two external Hard Drives, you never know when a drive will crash and it usually happens when you need it the most. Keep exact copies of your files on both drives, that way if one fails just plug in the other one.

The cheapest way is still DVD as Bluray is still expensive.

I use external hard drives and a piece of software called 'save n sync'. So basically i have externals that are exact copies of my internals in my gig box, the software is ideal for our purpose and does the job very well.
