Here is the situation
I play videos... and is plagued by limited hard drive space
I currently have a terabyte of hard drive space (two 500 GBs) all filled with videos in my gig machine
There are a great many vids that i do not put on my system because i just do not have the space
Been thinking about converting all to mp4 format.. but mp4 seems to load a little slower compared to other file formats

I have had the opportunity of seeing a file type with ext mkv.. file size is small yet the quality is great... (i have seen a VOB of 260MB converted to 82MBs and there is no visible difference in quality... I know there is but i cannot see it).
Anyone have their videos converted to mkv...and working great.in vdj

I am thinking of converting all my vid collection to mkv format... for my gig machine.. and keep my VOB as backups
Do not know much about about mkv... I was not the one who converted it.. but a friend.. who has been playing around with this format
Is it worth it ... or would i have issues down the line?

wiz -- look at the H.264 MP4 and go MP4

My Mp4s load just fine and it is all in the settings. The majority of mine load just like my audio tracks. I do have a couple that are MP4 that load slow - but that is because of the settings that were used when encoding the files.

If you are going to convert - then you will control your settings and should get consistency in how your files perform after they are converted.

more information needed cstoll
also.. encoders for converting
Settings etc would be a great help
Next week i will have at least two weeks off
would love to use the time converting

Here some programs that can convert to the file type that you need.

Sony vegas
Handbrake
Visual hub
Quicktime pro
Tmpgenc

i posted this somewhere else
the section disappeared with the new website
anyway...
i always had problems playing mkv files
couldn't figure out why...
after playing a few mkvs
the memory usage of vdj wouldn't stay low
it accumulates little by little so much
that it used most all of my pysical memory
windows responds slower etc...
you had to shut down and restart vdj

maybe it's only me,
but be aware

It would be really great if someone have a program that makes you just drag your vob onto it, and suddenly you have a copy of the file in h.264. All the settings and different encoders confuses me allot!

If you know of a such program, please PM me :)
(Or a guide that takes less than 5 mins ;)

funny this looks just like the converter i have on my samsung pc tool....

Perfect!! Thanks allot! :)
