Sujet: Crash and crash again

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I'm using the trial version right now. I've had a dozen or so crashes in 13 days including "Virtual DJ not responding" ...... "Fatal Error"...and twice now the program has just shut down in the middle of a song just as if I had Xed out. I have a ticket going where I submitted crash reports.......currently waiting for a response from "support". Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

PC specs are fine.

Thanks

uuuuuh ...... that's all too vague for us to help you

how much ram do you have ? what is your OS ?

use your antivirus to scan your system . if you are not infected , how many processes are running ? how full is the drive that the program is on ?

does it take a long time to boot or shutdown ?

run your defragger , clean the registry , then reboot and try again

you might need to do all the above then uninstall , reboot , turn off antivirus , redownload , turn antivirus back on , install

all my questions are about yer system because the variable is ...... your system

the software definitely works well , but just like towing a boat in the 98 degree heat with a truck with a blown head gasket , trying to run software that can be demanding on a weak or compromised computer isn't gonna work very well either

if yer software is runnin' crappy , it's kinda like the check engine light is on ......

Yes I Use VirtualDJ Pro And I Am Having The Same Problum It Happens At Least Once A Night And I Have A Crashguard Message Come U Sying "virtualDJ Has Encountered A Vital Error" Mainly When I Am Typing In A Song Title I Am Searching For. I Know It Is Very Annoying Specialy When It Happens In The Middle Of A Party. I have submitted A Ticket Discribing What Is Happening But I Have Not yet Had A Reply.

Hey ChuckNorris....PC is brand new Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. 3G..... Intel dual core 2.1 processors...... 220 GB on OS - 170 GB free.

Boots right up, VDJ comes up fast, shuts down fast also.

Thanks, Jerry

What sound card? Controllers? Post any crash info up too. Are you doing anything at the time, video and or plug ins active?

Thank you. I'm new at this so I really appreciate the help patience.

Not sure about sound card....mid grade sound quality for sure. Controllers? I'll have to check on that too. I'm not sure how to access that info. I'll call the dealer, get the specs and post that tomorrow. No video going on. If I understand your question.....I have no plug ins active in the VDJ. I did download an Adobe Flash player for some internet use today, but I was having trouble before then.

I first saw "Virtual DJ not responding" one evening while ripping cd's and building/moving music files back and forth between the PC and my external hard drive. Nothing large, maybe ten twenty songs at a time. The "Fatal Errors" also first occurred that night, but long after I had finished ripping music. When I hit the smiley it shuts down momentarily and comes right back.

Some "Fatal Errors"... and the complete, un-announced, shut downs have happened when I was doing nothing but running VDJ. Best I can tell....most fatal errors happen while performing some function...click and dragging, mixing, ect. The shut downs have happened while I was just watching and and listening.

Tonight it shut down in the middle of a song again.

Crash reports.

For what it's worth. Every since I bought the pc....when I boot up, I get a Windows pop up telling me I need "driver software" for "unknown device" When I try to download.....I get "no driver software found". I'm pretty sure I've been getting that since before I downloaded the VDJ trial.

Thanks again.

For what its worth. The crashes seem external related and not VDJ. The unknown device could be your harddrive failing or faulty connection or hub. Many failings i have had were quickly blamed on VDJ but since all the updates i have found the problems to be outside the software. Had the smiley face last night the first in a while but it would'nt recover. Still cheesed off that it still unstable in this respect as other leading software remains on screen.

You to mate.

and yep, I'm still sober, but I won't be later ;)

do you know how to go into the bios and perform the memory tests ? there is a short and a long one .....do the short one first ,if it says status is good then do the long one

you can run CHKDSK on the C: and if you perform a dismount (sounds like the olympics ) you can run CHKDSK on yer external

even though your unit is new it needs a lotta cleaning .......uninstall all that barfware it came loaded with , and defrag ..... if you use a wimpy defrag like the default windows defragger run it 2 more times after it gets done ......

auslogic defragger and axban are free get those and put 'er to some good use .....

he's using the default soundcard .......we're gonna forgive that for now cuz we like you , but if you wanna be a full member of the royal order of raccoons yer gonna have to get a real soundcard

if you don't have a real card turn off all those dumbass system sounds and alerts also , kill the screen saver , set power mgmt (all) to never
how many processes are running ?? if the answer is more than 50 , in my opinion you need to disable some of those things .......

turn off the wuss AVG or McAfee or Norton antivirus and get a good one .....Trend Micro or Zone Alarm or Alwil (Alwil home edition is free )

the controllers they are asking about are software controllers , these are hardware devices that control VDJ functions .....much better than using a mouse , so he doesn't have one .......

you still haven't answered the ? about the OS .... what flavor Vista or Xp ? is it 64 bit ? I am assuming that 3G means 3 gigs of ram ....most of the 3 gig ones i have seen are Vista Home premium .....normally with xp i would say that's lotsa ram ( and it's the max for xp) but with Vista as bloated as it is i would say 3 gig isn't a luxury ......

hey Jimbo , i just noticed yer VIP , congrats ... I used to tell Tear and Norway to promote you ......

I gotta warn ya about Jimmy though he's been on more floors than Johnson's wax .....

I guess Norway and Teary set down the vodka long enough to do something useful ,

although Teary ain't so bad fer one of those dumbass modera

Cheers Chuck, much appreciated mate

I dont know how to go into bio's and do memory tests. I'll learn. I'm using Kaspersky Anrti Virus software. Vista.... 32 bit. I paid Geek Squad at Best Buy good money to clear off unnecessary crap bundled with Vista. Maybe there's more to go eh?

Sad part....PCDJ Red was in use at the last club I worked at. (the only experience I've had with DJ software) When I decided to gear up and become self sufficient I called PCDJ and was informed I had to get 32 bit because of compatibility issues with 64. Then, after purchasing this PC, a friend turned me onto Virtual DJ. Obviously VDJ blows PCDJ away but here I set with computer recommended for the inferior product. Dang!

OK, defragg....memory test....check disk.....much to learn and do. Dismount? How do I do that?

I'll look into unistalling barfware. I think I can handle that. Could you maybe suggest a few things that need to go in case I don't know what they are or do?

I wonder....can the sound card be replaced within this laptop to a more appropriate one? Can I USB into a better one? Yes, I wanna be a Racoon.

Thanks again for the help guys.!

Bump....

A couple more questions if you don't mind.

I've been on line twice now with techs at Geek Squad performing some system checks...defragged...uninstalled - reinstalled. No black outs last night at work after these efforts but two "fatal errors" occured.

I really want to buy this software but no one seems to be able to tell why it's not running smoothly. Or at least nothing I true;ly understand.

Is it compatible with Vista 32 bit or not? If I need to remove programs or shut them down fine....but which ones?

Also, I received a reply on a ticket from support that stated the crash reports indicate I "may" have some corrupt/strange files on a hard drive. Both Geek Squad and I have performed scans on all hard drives including my external.....nothing obvious showed up.
I have thousands and thousands of songs of my external. The vast majority are from store bought cd's. I "have" ripped a lot of music from burned cd's of unknown origin. I personally have never downloaded a single song from the internet from any source. If it is a song file that triggers the crashes...how the heck do I find the file or files???? It has not been a particular song that triggers the crashes. The program has completely blacked out while playing songs from cd's I purchased from the store and then ripped to my ExternalHD.

For what it's worth...my music files have worked perfectly for years with another software. Maybe VDJ is more particular? Please don't get me wrong, I want to step "up" to VDJ big time. But it just aint working for me as things are.

Ant thoughts would be appreciated.
