If this helps...im only going to dj parties and weddings on the weekends..not a full time job!! I drive trucks for a living!! My wife wants a 2 story 4 bedroom house with a garage..i can afford it but i wont have play money if i dont dj!!!

I would get rid of the wife and the truck driving job, and DJ for a living. Then you could afford to buy at least a 1TB drive that you will need sooner rather than later. I now have 2 TB drives for video and a 500g for music. I am debating whether I should get another 1 TB or the new 1.5 TB drive, because I am running out of space. I look at it this way, as long as they keep making music and videos, I will have to keep buying. It will never stop.

LMAO..Not sure if I would go that far but, I do own four 500gig EXT HDs. They are so cheap right now..buy deep and go long like AMaHM has hinted at. Your only going to want more later.....

get the BIGGEST hard drive you can afford. Right now you can get 1tb drives for less than $120 at most on-line retailers like tigerdirect.com or at you local big box store like Fry's Electronics.

A 1tb drive will hold about 6000 full DVD quality videos (7000kbs video and 320aac audio), by comaprison you can fit about 10,000 192kbs mp3 audio songs on an 80gig drive.....the cost of an 80gig drive is around $80-$90. For the extra $20-$40 for the 1TB you get the equivalent of (12) 80gig drives.......

Not to pass judgement, but if you can't afford the extra $20 for something this important to your lively hood you should probably find a new line of work!

Look at the warranty as well not all external Hard Drives are the same quaility. I usually stick with Seagate they offer a 5 year warranty on most of their hard drives, Western Digital will vary from 1 to 5 years.

what ladies ? did someone come in ??

I've collected tunes since the early 70's When I moved from Seattle to NYC I turned all my vinyl, tapes and CDs to MP3s and I now have over 9000 MP3s. All of these files are ripped at 192kb (I do not dj for a living) and they take up less than 1/2 a terabyte. That should give you an idea of how much space you need.

Peace,
James

Apparently you didn't get the memo, no goofing off in a serious post. I gave a valid answer, your response needs some serious moderating.

What about Mp3Rick?... I haven't seen him do anything around here for months. Go get him Rick!
