Sujet: Keep this in mind if you buy a laptop

Hello,

I want to buy a Dell XPS 16 laptop.

Specs:

4 gb DDR3 memory
250 gb 720 rpm Harddisk
ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB4

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-bit

If you use Vista 32 bits, you will see that you can only use 3 gb memory. With 64 bits you can use all the 4 gb memory !!!

The Gigaport usb audiocard has a 64 bit driver.
I'm using the Numark DMC2 controller, but don't know how it works with Vista 64 bits.

Now I called Dell:

They told me that I can try the laptop for 7 days if virtual dj works the way it should be working.
If not, I can send it back and I will get my money back.


THEY TOLD ME THAT IF YOU BUY A LAPTOP VIA INTERNET, YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE CHANCE TO SEND IT BACK WITHIN 7 DAYS !!!


So, if you buy a new laptop and you get a freezing problem with playing video, you can send the laptop back within the 7 days.

Then the guy from Dell has it wrong.
He told me that.

Vista SP1 will recognise the fact you have 4Gb RAM installed if your BIOS is compatible. However, it doesn't increase the amount of addressable memory available to the operating system, which is still 3.5Gb maximum. If you have PAE support, you can work around this slightly however.

i wish i had done that

i got a Hercules mk2 and when my mic worked i sounded like im on helium tested the mic on speakers and i have my normal voice so its rather annoying :(

Anthony, how soon are you purchasing? I am buying a laptop at the end of February, I have been looking at this one http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=51114&action=customize from Sager (had a sager pentium IV for 5 years before I was doing video and was real pleased until it was stolen 2 years ago).

I like the larger screen on the sager and the video memory is ddr3

Let us know how the Dell works with video though if you go through with it.

Gonna buy this tomorrow and hopefully it's there within a week.
If I have it, I'll test it and let you know.
By the way, I saw yours and it looks like it has almost the same specs.

well how about the toshiba Satillite?? its $875 US...its 4Gb Ram,320Gb Harddrive,64 bit, 1655 Video share Ram, its black and gray lol...but yea seriously is this an ok Laptop??
