I want to try using my HC4500and DNX500 with only my laptop. How do I do this and still be able to cue up without the left and right channel bleeding through my mix.

Does anyone have this exact setup here?

First, make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware installed: http://www.denondj.com/firmware.aspx?ProductId=81

Next, connect RCA cables between the outputs on the the HC4500 to channels 1 and 2 of your mixer (Or any other channels of your choice.) If you will be using the crossfader to fade audio, make sure you assign the correct channels to the left/right side of the crossfader using the crossfader assign switches.

Then in VirtualDJ, go to CONFIG -> Sound Setup and choose the following:

Inputs: None
Outputs: External Mixer
Sound card(s): ASIO
ASIO driver: Denon ASIO

The sound from deck 1 will now be output to channel 1 on your mixer and the sound from deck 2 will be output to channel 2.

Plug your headphones into the mixer and press the CUE button to pre-listen to it in your headphones. Use the crossfader and/or volume slider to prevent the deck that you are pre-listening to from playing out live on your speakers (E.g: If deck 1 is playing live, you would either put the crossfader all the way to the left, or if you are using the volume sliders, turn the volume of deck 2 down to zero.)

Don't forget to Disable the Crossfader in the Config -> Options tab. Will save you the hassle of trying to keep VirtualDJ's Audio Crossfader in the center.

Thanks I will try this and let you know how it went :)

Ok, all seems good but im not gettin audio through my lappy speakers. Do I need to connect something else?

Ummm .... you won't. All audio is routed to your Mixer.

You need to have speakers hooked up to your Master out of the mixer ... or listen only through your Headphones from the mixer.

Is there anyway I can re route it back to my laptop. I want to be able to also use it this way.

Does anyone know whether or not I can reroute the audio into my lappy? Or do I need to buy someother type of connection maybe?

Im open to any suggestions, or if it can't be done then just let me know either way thanks =)

The X500 isn't a MIDI mixer, so can't control the VDJ internal mixer.

You will need to take the master out from the mixer, to a line in on your PCs soundcard. You will then be able to enable this output to be heard in the windows mixer and/or record from it.

Yo that's what im talking about =) Could you give me an idea of what i could use to do this?

And, could i go from the record out on my mixer to the mic in on my lappy? Would this work, thanks?

Yes, Record out/Booth out will do fine. Then you use your internal sound card of your laptop to record.

That's how I record my mixers when using my TCV's. (only done it 3 times though) but it works OK. I then use Audacty to record.

*edit* Got my wires crossed sorry, thought you was on about recording, d'oh.

You need a line in. On some laptops the port will ask you what you connected when you plug it in.

I don't know Im trying everything and I can't get it to work. Im not to good at this i guess.................lol1

I bought a Y splicer and went from my record out of my mixer back to mic in line on my lappy. And no audio coming through!

My config is setup this way:
none, mixer, asio, denon asio.

You understand what I want acheive here right? Just want to the HC4500 with the DNX500 via my laptop.

But be able to have one deck on my headphones as the other is playing through my laptoop speakers, thanks again guys =)
