Hey guys.
After finishing school last year (what a relief), I have gotten into university and deferred for the year. So this means I basically have a year of earning money. Now the majority will be going towards my car, but so far I have an amount saved that could buy me some CD decks.
My price range is AUS $800 per deck or less. I think thats a fair amount for a decent CD deck these days.
So far I have been using the site http://www.decks.co.uk/ to look for decks mainly becuase of their range in products. However I am in Australia. So need to think of postage or find a place here that sells the deck I decide on.
I will only be using the deck for audio mixing only. And will be using it with VDJ (of course!)
Now this is what I have been looking at:
[list]
Numark iCDX - ₤509 = $1125 (bit out of range, but willing to wait longer if is as good as people say)
Numark Axis 9 - ₤249 = $553
Stanton 324 - ₤349 = $771
Reloop RMP2 - ₤327 = $725
[*]American DJ Radius 1000 - ₤325.00 = $718
Have also been looking into Stanton's SCS.3D a.k.a DaScratch. But it looks a little complicated, so I'm unsure about it. Anyone had experience?
Now preferably i would like to keep it as cheap as possible. I do have 800 available per deck but it would be good if i could save some money as well.
Now what I am after from you guys is any feedback on these decks or recommendations on any other decks out there that will match my price range and use.
Thanks for any help!

Thanks for confirming my suspicions Charlie.
It looked a bit cheap and unreliable.
Anyone got anything on the other CD decks I have posted?

I've not tried either, but if you're considering the iCDX, perhaps the CDJ400 is worth checking out too:

Not to bad priced either.

I highly recommend the Denon S1200 for your budget and for its feature. You can use with VDJ or simply from USB. I just did a five hour gig with these Decks controlling VDJ through Midi with no problem

For mixers, if you are a scratch dj, then go with an Audio Innovate. If you want a USB Mixer and are on a budget, perhaps the Behringer.

That looks awesome.
After doing alot more research into each one.
I've narrowed my choices to either the American Audio one or the Dennon.
However if i get a slight burst of money I may consider the iCDX still.
I'm going away for 2 months soon, but as soon as I get back I will have probs made a decision and make the purchases.
Thanks for your help guys.

Is factory B-stock safe to purchase though?
Anyone else purchased factory B-stock?
Is it wort the risk?
I'm all up for saving money, and that is one hell of a saving. But I want reliability to.

Thanks for that, I'll take your word.
yeah I had a look at the rest of the site. Must say, I'm gonna try and get it off them.
If they ship internationally that is.

I wouldn't underestimate the value and practicality of midi control; CD's are becoming increasingly uncommon whilst digital stores are on the rise (with more companies offering lossless audio).
With that and your budget in mind, I'd buy 1x Pioneer CDJ-400, I'd assign a button for changing deck and if I felt the need to buy a second unit I would do so when I have the funds.
I never let budget restrictions get in the way of my desire for a quality product, I'd rather buy a second hand VW than a brand new Fiat.
I'd only buy CD decks if I was going to do a lot of mobile gigs, for home use/bar DJ'ing/Club DJ'ing it's best to just have a kick ass midi controller like a VCI 100/300.
CD decks are a nice luxury though, especially the Pioneer range.

I couldn't disagree more. I just got my SCS.3D and I love it. You still need a mixer, though, IMO. I bought it for the vinyl mode and looping, mostly, and it's great for that.

@ Bagpuss
Really helpful mate! Thank you for that!
But just to be clear, your basically saying that the best option is to get a Controller and one CD deck to switch between decks on VDJ?
@JackFu
How does the touch sensitive pad go on the SCS.3D?

Just consider your needs before splashing out.
What would suite you more a CD player or a controller? Where are you going to use it/them for? What's the main purpose? (scratching, beat-mixing etc).
As I said, if you want a midi controller, CD player and soundcard in one the Pioneer CDJ-400 does it all, and does it in good style. Your budget might mean buying just one unit until you can afford a second (although you may decide switching between decks with a button works well).
If you really don't need the CD player then a controller like a VCI would provide control for both decks (plus mixing/effects controls) for slightly less than your average CD deck, this is the best value for money unless you are a mobile DJ and you need a CD unit as a back-up or you need a large platter for scratching (in thise case CDJ800/1000).

Well like I said, I am just out and earning money, and I'm about to move away.
So for now it will mostly be home DJing and hopefully some pub/bar work. However mobile gigs are something I will be looking into in the near future. I would also like a platter for scratching.
I know it is very expensive, but I had a look into the Denon DNS 3700. Coming out soon I believe. One of these and a controller I think would work very well for me.
I looked at the VCI, and I must say it is very impressive. I'll look a bit more into the other digital controllers. See what I can find.
Thanks Bagpuss!

It's pretty accurate. In vinyl mode, you've got the outside of the circle for scrubbing and the inside for scratching. I don't really scratch, so I mostly use it to cue tracks, which it's great for. The loop function is awesome. I still prefer to EQ on my mixer, but I prefer the pitch control on the SCS.3d, now, over my mixer's slider. I haven't started playing with effects, yet.
Here's a good video, if you haven't seen it.

I've only been mixing since last October, so I'm not using it to it's full potential. Here's the documentation for the VDJ preset, if you want to see everything its setup to do.

Thanks for that Jack.
I'll keep my options open in regards to the stanton.
However, I think I'm going to stick it out a bit for maybe 3 or 4 months and see what happens to the price of the Denon DNS 3700.
If it goes below AUS$ 1300, then I'm going for it!!!
At the moment its supposed to be US$ 899. Which is AUS$ 1400. So yeah, we weill see what happens.
