Sujet: External hard drive question

Im running a mbp and i have a little over 300 gb of music. I have a tb external hard drive , but there is sooo much lag, and is sooo slow with VV, and itunes....probably because of the large amount of music i have,, What is the best external hard drive to solve my slow response lag problem...thanks

this would be a random guess but maybe a faster connection format might help like esata
