Sujet: Alcohol and Vista don't mix

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Installed Alcohol cd burning software on my home machine tonight and its caused the machine to crash big time. I tried a system repair and restore as well as going into command prompt with out any way of getting Vista to run. Many hours later i am having to run a Vista upgrade on another drive hoping that i then can retrieve all my files. What cheeses me off is the fact that Vista supposed to be very secure but once drivers are installed which it don't like it crashes. I have never had such problems when i used to use XP. I have used Vista for a year on my home machine and gig machine and frankly it is total crap until of course we have a stable version. I'm not gonna blame Alcohol has that has served me well on my other XP PC'S . Its very annoying that after buying software in the past that much of it is incompatible with Vista. Well that's my vent for tonight i suppose the upside is my gig laptop only has VDJ on and thats running perfect.

Has worked fine for me (Vista 64-bit and 32-bit systems). What do you mean by crashed big and why is it so severe that you need to try a system restore? Could you describe your problem in more detail?

If you can get into safe mode you can uninstall Alcohol if that is the culprit? What makes you suspect so?

Only versions of Alcohol with SPTD are supported in Vista. If you installed 1.9.5.3105 or any earlier version, its trouble This was a huge debate and causes tons of problems with vista that 3105 version is only for windows 98 but also widely accessible through p2p ;)

Were you drinking alcohol at the time of the install?

I don't want to sound like an ass....but I work on software and hardware for a living and nothing irritates me more than people assuming that any application will run on their machine just because they have Windows.

But....what version of Windows? If an application was NOT developed for Vista and does not have Vista drivers....blame the developer of the application, not Windows. Windows 98 was built on a completely different file system than XP and Vista. XP came out in 2001 and Vista in 2006. Alcohols developers had over 5 years to write drivers for Vista and they didn't. ALL Microsoft developers had dev kits years before the release of Vista and it amazes me that a good number of them failed to write drivers for their product.

One of the reasons Vista is such a monster of an OS is because Microsoft includes as many drivers (among other crap) built into the OS as possible so you don't have to deal with this kind of shit. Both Mac and Windows are hardware specific and their must be proper drivers written to interact with the software you are using.

This is sort of like trying to install this on a Mac assuming it will work and won't mess up your system. XP might have had a compatibility tool that allows the application to run....even without a driver but with an application originally developed for 98, I would have every doubt in the world that app would not run on a Vista machine. Those idiots should have wrote new drivers OR you should have updated your version of Alcohol.

Again, I don't want to sound like an ass.....it's not your fault. Those idiots should have wrote a driver for vista. There is no reason why Microsoft should have to do all the work....write the drivers or provide the support to the end users when stuff like this breaks because of irresponsible developers. That's my rant for the day. Hope you get your system up and running. Update your application or try finding a Vista driver online. You might want to consider updating your soundcard driver tool.

-Cheers
