I'm hoping one of you guys can come thru for me on something as I am not having a lot of luck on this...Its hard to talk to someone who's not a dj/vj and doesn't understand the language. Let me start by saying I am using Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum.
When I have multiple audio tracks with corresponding video don't I need to know the exact bpm (ie: 128.994) of the main audio track and the corresponding audio and video tracks so I know how much to time stretch? If yes how do I find out this information in vegas? If not how can I find out the exact bpm of the video?
I have a project that I'm working on where my audio track is 133.996. The video I want to match that bpm is Whitney Houston "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". If I recall the bpm for Whtney is around 120 but how do I determine the exact bpm of the audio that's embedded with the video?
I used the acappella of "I Want To Dance With Somebody" and time stretched it to where I could use it at 133.996. As you can see I'm trying to put together a video for a mashup I created.
I know about holding the CTRL while I drag the video for time stretching...I just can't get Whitney to stay in sync with the audio track.
Am I doing anything wrong?
Thanks for the help.

first depending on the audio tracks you are using you will need to break it down into smaller pieces as whitney does not keep a constant beat throughout....second you will need to visually line up the wave signals for the two tracks (keep the video attached and it will stretch with the audio). This takes practice and a really good ear.
I have never figured out why sony did not incorporate the beat and key matching they had in acid into vegas....if they did I have never found it.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. However if the file being used is "Acidtized" it will use the beat information.

ahhh makes sense. So you think i need to chop Whitney up more to get her to stay on sync? Right now I have big chunks and after about 10 seconds she gets off. I'm not mixing audio tracks...they are already mashed into 1 file just trying to get the original Whitney video to speed up.

That's good to know. Never actually tried that.

Stop bragging dude!
Actually if the video and audio are already seperated the only way is to stretch it manually. It is much easier if you do it in smaller section (maybe the lenght egual to 32 beats at a time). I just had a similar problem with naughty by nature opp and I had to break that down almost to every 16 beat sections! It takes time, but if is worth it (for self satisfaction as none of your drunk customers will ever notice anyway!).

Ill have to try that. You're right..that will take some time but since its my signature song/mix I made I want it to be right.

What about beat matching it VDJ and recording the file.. Then all you have to do is match with video. I think three or so minutes is much easier than trying to time stretch sections. This what I do when I use disco or 70s music as samples.
