Greetings everyone,
Here's the deal. Used to mix with a couple of Technic's 1200's and a mixer back in the day. Now I'm using a very basic setup where I'm trying the software 5.2 with the simple setup of the sound card being the only way I've hooked in the speakers to the tower.
What I can't seem to figure out is how to preview the track I want to beat mix/preview before moving the crossfader over and making that track "live".
I assume the "pfl" button would be the way to do this, but can I not because of my setup? On the top of the screen I've maxed out the cue and headphone volumes, but unless the crossfader has been moved from the far left or right, I can't hear the other track, making it sound very slopping trying to properly get matched up.
If anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. If my current setup won't work, I'll find a way to make due.
Thanks for your time.
James

To preview a track you need 2 outputs of sound from your Pc.
This is normally done with a soundcard that has 2 stereo outs (such as a surround card), or two soundcards.
Alternatively one can use one soundcard, and a stereo splitter cable (but will give mono sound on cueing and master out)
A good solution for you, could be getting a midi mixer that has soundcard with two outs, plus headset out (and mic in), and midi control for all you need to control in the software.
Such as Hercules RMX

Thanks for your reply DJ in Norway!
About how expensive do you think the model that you recommended would be? Is there a certain sound card I could use that might be a cheaper solution? Unfortunately, money is an issue. :(

The Hercules RMX is around 300 dollars... But its a BARGAIN deal...
- Mixer
- Deck control
- Headset out
- Mic out
- soundcard built in
Everything you need to start djing..
+ it comes with a FREE version of VDJ included (fully working, no time limits, but a few feature limitations)
IF money is a real issue, check out the earlier model, Hercules MK2
(same specs as over, just a bit smaller controller, and more "plastic", but also somewhat cheaper to buy )

Hey DJ,
It's more of a space/ prevention of kids getting into this type of consideration that I'm after. The Hercules option is interesting, but I think I'd rather buy the full version of VD, and a sound card. Is there a particular card you'd recommend? I'm by no means a hardware geek, so I don't want to order the wrong thing. A quick search brought up this...
