First, be sure to use the latest drivers from the Hercules support site.
As for VDJ, Open Sound Setup, and configure as follow:
- Input : None
- Output(s): Headphone
-Soundcard: 4.1 soundcard
A sub-menu will then appear, where you should leave the default setup: Main output 1/2, Headphone 3/4
From there, connect your speakers to the Ouput 1/2 on the back of the console , and your headphone to the front headphone connector.

If you want to use the laptop internal speakers, you would need to choose "Built In Output" . However, by doing this, you will not be able to use headphone monitoring.
You can try to select "2 Soundcard", but since VDJ only uses the 1st stereo pair of each soundcard, you still couldn't use headphone of the MK2 because it is assigned to Output 3/4 of the console.
You "best" option is to configure VDJ as I mentionned before, and run a cable from Ouput 1/2 to the LINE In connector on you MAC to send the signal to the integrated speakers.
As for which driver to use, you can't really go wrong as there is only 1 available for MAC:

again, thanks for the help.
ive now connected output 1/2 to the mac with a red/white lead, and the headphones to the front, and set it up liek you said, but theres now no sound at all. the only way i can get sound, is by setting it up with no leadas coming from the mac, and the set up you said in config, but obviously now its all through the mac, nothing through my headphones.
argh, what could i be doing wrong?

- Go to Application > Utilities > Audio MIDI setup
- In AUDIO DEVICES, for System Settings, check the following
a) For Default Input, you could have a choice between "Built In Microphone" and "Built In Line In".
You should select "Built In Line In"
b) For Default Output and System Output, select "Built In Output"
Now, technically, it should work
***EDIT:
I've been reading a few things on the web , and it seems that this is not possible unless you have a software (like Garageband) that could provide realtime monitoring of your input source. I find it strange that this would not be possible under OS X (it is failry standard under WIndows), but maybe this is a hardware limitation.
***EDIT 2:
Actually, you can do it by simply installing and running the application called "LineIn" from this site:

ive just bought the mac so it comes with garage band on it, but ive never had it ope, im actually not even sure what realtime monitoring means, could you explain please?
thanks again, i really dying to get it to work, its so frustrating lol

Let's revise what you should have shall we:
In Audio MIDI setup
a) For Default Input: Built In Line In
b) For Default Output and System Output : Built In Output
In VDJ sound configuration:
- Input : None
- Output(s): Headphone
- Soundcard: 4 Out Card
- Driver 1: Hercules DJ Console Mk2
- Output Channel: Master Chan 1-2 /Heaphone Chan 3-4
You then connect the RCA OUTPUT 1/2 of the MK2 TO the jack LINE In input connector on you MAC Book (if not sure which one, check your manual) .
You lauch LineIn and you configure it as follow:
- Input From : Buit In Line Input - Liine In
- Output From : Built in output - Internal Speakers
- Press the PASS THRU button
It works on my system, so it should work on yours as well

thats exactly what ive set up, but i have a imac not a mac book, i doubt that'll matter eh, plus im using a lead with a red white end for the output 1, does that matter?
i cant get sound to come through the headphones for some reason
ive just tried that set up, with speakers into input 1, and i can get that to work as speakers thorugh output 1, and the other through the mac, but i cant get it to work coming wither through the mac/headphones, or the speakers/headphones
its like a cant seperate the 2 channels
any other ideas lol

ok now what i have is speakers set to output 1, headphones in the headphone jack, and i can get sound on deck 1 through the headphones, but none from speakers, and sound from deck 2 from the speakers and the headphones, but obviously that means when move the crossfader to the left, i hear nothing from the speakers
argh

Are you using this type of cable to connect the RCA (red and White) OUTPUT 1/2 of the MK2 to the minijack INPUT behind the iMac

Set the Headphone selector on the MK2 to MIX and move the Crossfader between Deck A and Deck B, What do you hear?
Normally, you should hear what is coming out of Output 1/2
How about each deck individually ?
Phatso, use the [i m g]...[/ i m g] when uploading the image;)

ok ive set it up fairly similarly to this, i have everything the same, but instead of a RCA output 1/2 to the mac, i have it hooked to external speakers, and that allows me to get sound from them.
however, the sound i get from the headphones is exactly the same, ie i cant play deck 1 on the speakers, while mixing deck 2 in my headphones, as it only plays in headphones if i switch the crossfader over to the right, which in turn, plays both tracks through the speakers
any idea how to sort this? i reckon i'm close to getting it haha

So you mean that if you use the headphone switch on the front of the MK2, you cannot hear DECK 1 or Deck 2 individually or the main Mix ( what comes out of the main output 1/2), according to the position you select?
Posté Thu 02 Jul 09 @ 6:39 am
say im playing boys noize on deck 1(left), and daft punk on deck 2(right)
when i have the crossfader over at the left, i hear boys noize through the speakers, and through the headphones.
when i slide the crossfader to the right, i hear daft punk from the speakers, and the headphones.
when its in the middle, i hear both mixed from the speakers and the headphones.
its impossible for me to be playing boys noize through the speakers, whilst listening to daft punk on my headphones to mix, which is what should happen when i have the crossfader to the left, and the PFL to the right, yes?

I'll repeat my question differently then:
At the moment, the headphone selector switch, next to the headphone connector on the MK2, must be set to MIX if you hear exactly what is coming out of your speakers.
Now, if you move the switch to either DECK A or DECK B, you should hear ONLY the selected deck in your headphone. Is that the case ?

yes thats right, if i move my dial to deck a i hear that in the headphones, deck b i hear it in the headphones, whuile the other track still plays on the speakers
is that right? is that how it should be? bear in mind ive never done any dj'ing before, but was always under the illusion, that the dj had the mix playing in his headphones as opposed to just the next track?

Yes, this is how it's done. This is the main reason why you see DJs using only one side with their headphone ( the uncovered ear is used to listen what is being played in the room).
However, this is not totally true. Most hardware mixer provide a way to send some of the mix signal to the headphone (refered to as "Cue blend" or "monitor mix", etc).
This is also the case of DJ software. Virtual DJ includes this possibility and the control may or may not appear, depending on the skin you are using.
