Hi guys,
Was messing about with the VDJ Trial (6.0.1) and after about 2 hours, the entire laptop crashed. The screen just went black, and I had to power cycle it to get everything working again. At the time of the crash, VDJ was just playing a song, about half way through, and I wasn't doing anything actively with the software.
Is this a known issue, or is it more likely an overheat issue with the laptop (it was very hot, but has never done that before).
Had a VCI-100 connected if that makes any difference (although wasn't actually using it at the exact moment of the crash).
Thanks
Moonie

Most users here have not had a flat out crash like that. When is the last time you cleaned out your laptops fans and cooling ducts? You can buy a simple can of compressed air and, while the PC is off, give everything a good dusting. Also, make sure the laptop is not sitting flat, even a small angle of clearance is enough to keep the fresh air flowing.

My crashes are because of my laptop, I'm almost positive. I have the über-hi end Toshiba Qosmio X305 SLI gaming laptop, made for graphics intensive programs but yet it gets hot and shuts down. I have Googled it and I'm not alone, there are quite a few people with the same lappy that have this problem when gaming as well as other laptop brands (no wonder DJ Renée doesn't like laptops). A cooling fan will not work. Clean your fans and heat sinks with compressed air and then go buy a 10" oscillating fan, but disable the oscillation. I use one now and it hasn't shut down on me since. I put it all the way up against the back of my lappy and held in place by a mic stand. It may look silly but works great. the laptop cooling fans don't work well because they don't aim properly at the area nedding cooling and the fans aren't strong enough. I am going to make a quick You Tube video on it soon..
All in all I'm very happy with my lappy now that I have the solution...

The ultimate laptop cooling fan I use at one club...(will blow dry Renee's hair in two minutes flat-lol)

At home & other gigs...

And the laptop coolers DO NOT do didly squat jack, save your money and invest in a "real" fan

Well, the reason I asked the question originally, is because its never happened before, and I take good care of my gig kit.
I will check out the cooler that I've ordered, should do the trick, as it also raises the lappy off the ground a bit, and comes with a handy 4 port USB hub ;)

Check the hub when you get it as mine turned out to be USB ver 1.1 NOT USB 2.0 on my Akasa cooling plate.

It'll probably only run the mouse anyway, so not a biggie, just a nice to have.

Just like to finish this thread off.
Laptop hasn't crashed again, but I've been back on Traktor whilst I get this issue sorted.
Ironically, I think its also related to a problem I've having with that software as well. Whenever the VCI-100 midi controller is set to receive midi from the software (for lighting up LEDs etc), there is a chance that traktor will crash. If you turn this feature off, the controller works perfectly, although you dont get buttons lighting up.
I wonder if this could be the same problem in virtual DJ ?
