Sujet: Finally purchaced a Hercules RMX - Page: 1

So i finally purchaced a herc rmx and i must say im impressed with the build quality (i bought the very first herc console mk1 which was pants lol)
ive upgraded from
2 x Xp10's
and m-audio x-session pro
and a delta 66 for the sound card

so all in all, the rmx will be a lot more portable with less clutter. :-)
now i just need a new graphics card for the video mixing and ill be set..... Anyone got any recomendations?

Yes, I didnt even bother with the disc. I just went straight to the herc website and downloaded the latest ones

I developed a rattle on mine, I took it to bits and it was two plastic things that lwere the same they looked like part of a switch. Anyway I woudn't take one appart again as they don't go back together well afterwards. I have now given mine away and may buy another one however I am hoping something better will come out.

May I add that my RMX had worked hard and had been abroad on many occasions.

Hercules did quite a bit of research by asking the DJs what they thought was wrong with the MK2, therefore, the RMX was borne of comments and suggestions from DJs instead of engineers, lol.

Anyway, DJAdvise has a point - the RMX IMHO, is a great all-in-one for mobile use (:^D)

And what's a tweaked-out VCI100 got to do with the RMX, hehehe ;) (nice setup, tho)

The pretty lights that Tayla was referring to............. :-)

I was actually considering the RMX because of the built it soundcard and mic input, but, if it aint got pretty lights................ :-(
 
it's got to have pretty flashing lights doc ... makes you a much better dj by far, lol

going on that soulman is the man and i'm crap... lol
 
Hello All,

It was well thought out but they missed one very important thing. There is no external power supply so if your computer crashes and you need to reboot you can't even talk on the mic or use an alternate source through that mixer because this device depends on the power from your computers usb. My advice to anyone using the Hercules RMX is to buy a powered usb hub to stay on even if you need to reboot. Let me know what you think. I would have liked to see touch sensitive jog shuttles so you don't get that pause when you use the scratch feature on VDJ. There is no other way around it.

or better still is to have an iPod or some other device hooked up to an external mixing desk (into which the outputs of the RMX would also go) and have the mic directly hooked to that too so in the worst case scenario you describe then you will have something to fall back on
 
Shane, that's the way I'm using the RMX currently, i.e. with an external mixer for the reasons you outlined (mics & backup). So while the RMX is fine, for me it's ruled out as a standalone all-in-1 mixer.

I've been looking for something that will let me leave my analogue mixer at home (ok, I'm getting lazy :-)). Charlie Wilson pointed me towards the Pioneer DJM 5000 as one option, due for release in October. Might be just what I need, with some neat features!
 
I was thinking that the DJM 5000 and the Dac 3 with a USB hub would be good.

Because you then only have one lead from the hub to the computer and a mains lead as will as two balanced xlr's, remember the USB on the DJM is a powered feed so going through a hub in conjunction with another non powered USB source would be like using a direct line from one nopowered unit to the computer, just elliminates a lead to be connected each time.
 
Again, welcome to the RMX club. I have had mine for over a year now and couldn't see myself without it.

And now with VDJ6 we can properly re-programme those 6 hot keys for each deck ;-)

I too have run in to issues with "what to do when the software/laptop crashes". My immediate decision was to go out and buy an American Audio SD-1 (which is now currently for sale) which is a twin SD card player. Didn't see the point in investing in CD players when I am 100% MP3...

So I hooked it up and tested it by quitting VDJ, then I found out that you lose all capabilities of the console - no crossfader, no external inputs nothing... As it happens I was using a Berhinger Xynyx 1202 mixer anyway, as there are no tone controls on the RMX mic - which to me is the weakest feature of the RMX, so I simply hooked the SD-1 up to that - Messy though...

Now I have moved on the Mk2 of my setup and with much better results - I have ditched using the SD-1 as to be honest all I needed was a single SD card player to get me through the crash - should it ever happen - so I was more than pleased when American audio launched the Q-SD mixer.

The Q-SD ( http://www.decks.co.uk/products/american_audio/Q_SD ) is a good quality four channel mixer, but with a built in SD card player which can be assigned to any channel, plus you have a mini-jack aux input for your iPod/MP3 player.

The next step is to flight case the lot (now that I have the rack mount ears for the RMX) and use the Q-SD as the mixer with decks 1 & 2 assigned accordingly on the Q-SD and use the headphones and mics all off the Q-SD plus having the bonus of the built in SD card player for backup.

I'm aslo gonna build the radio mics in to the same flight case so that I can minimise my external connections. May even mount the external HDD inside the case with a powered hub and have a single USB socket on the side of the flightcase for even quicker set up...

The RMX will still be the soundcard and the VDJ interface, but I will have my backup player now built in to my system.

One final thing - I have also now started to use the SD card player for the last track of the evening, so by the time it's finished the laptop is powered down and packed away so I can then start dismantling my rig straight away...

PS. My SD-1 supports SDHC cards as it's one of the later models so it will support 32Gb cards and comes with a USB SDHC card reader. If anyone is interested in it please contact me ;-)

custom built this myself, what you got to remember is use of space for the environment your going to be playing in, if your mobile it really does'nt matter but in a bar or club situation you are usually restricted for space normally not more than a couple of foot, plus weight is another factor.

maybes as a thought you might want to work out a module system for each environment you may encounter, here's the one i made, the rmx rack ear's were made out of some angled aluminium, cost worked out at about £1:50 and the rmx is completely secure. not sure if i'm gonna put any decals onto the ears though.
 
@tayla: Remember seeing the progress on you building this case in another thread. Nice job.

2 questions:

(1) Any backup built into that case?
(2) Where did you order the case-building bits?

I've got my rmx mounted in my 19" rack adready (DIY also!) on sliding rails, but once I change the 24-channel mixer mounted above it, I'll need to modify the case again (pics to follow, next time I unload my gear into the house :-))
 
@DJmga, thanks, back up? i take it you mean cd player, nope usually depend on the venues system for that, but on the rare occassion i'm out doing a mobile i have another built in system with > 4 channel mixer - equaliser - and slim line dvd player built into the module.

all of the aluminium, rca sockets and other bits and bobs i got from a local electronics/dj shop, the mdf from local b&q.

wey hey, DIY the way to go, get exactly what you want where you want and you get the pleasure of seeing and using the finished product.
