Hello all,
Ive been having some problems managing my local music database.
First off, the number of songs in the folder in which I keep all my music (in Windows) doesnt match the number of songs reported to be in the folder by Virtual DJ: I have exactly 1865 music files (all of which are either .mp3, .m4a, or wma) in my folder in Wiindows. However, Virtual DJ reports that this monitored folder contains 1864 music files. I found the file which Virtual DJ claims not to exist in this folder and made sure that it was. Virtual DJ still refuses to recognize the song (which is in standard m4a format).
Secondly, some songs which Virtual DJ does recognize as being in the folder/database do not appear in the result window when I search for them within Virtual DJ, although I use the exact name of the song.
I dont really understand whats going on. I appreciate your help and your comments.

m4a is a format often used for Audiofiles with Digital Rights Management. VDJ is not able to play those files because the used encryption is bundled with your windows os. So (afaik) only media player is able to play those songs.

Hello,
Thanks for the quick reply.
So, I converted the m4a track to mp3 format and added it to the folder and Windows; Virtual DJ then managed to recognize it.
That still doesn't explain, however, why Virtual DJ is capable of playing all of the other 50 or so m4a songs that I have in the same folder.
Also, that doesnt explain why most of the searches in Virtual DJ come out empty or incomplete (I have for example various remixes in different formats [mp3, m4a, or wma] of a single song), even though I search for the exact title of the song.
Thank you so much for your comments.

Maybe not all of your m4a files are drm protected. You can try to use an other player like VLC or Winamp to test for drm.
In Version 6.02 there is a problem - VDJ searches case sensitive for the songs. This problem is directed to the development team and should be fixed in the next update.
Try to search the exact name and i think it would work.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. Im sorry to say that the search mechanism still doesnt work correctly, although I finally managed to have VDJ recognize all the songs in the folder (the number of songs that Windows reports as being in the folder matches the number of songs that VDJ recognizes).
As said before, I tried looking up a song that I knew was in the folder with its exact name, but it still doesnt work. Ill have for example two different remixes of a song in my folder (both mp3 files), but when I search for the song using for example only part of its title (which is common to both tracks), only one remix shows in the search results.
I really dont understand whats going on. Everything had been working great up until yesterday. The only significant thing I did yesterday on my computer was install Windows Vista Service Pack 2, but I cant see how that would have created or influenced this problem.
As always, I would be grateful for everyone's comments. Thanks a lot for your help.

Do you activate \'seraching in songtitle\' ? Maybe you just search in the interpret and song title field, not in the filename field ?

You should activate all of the options for testing. Click on the button right beside the search field.
