Sujet: Another issue with 6.0.4

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

After playing with 6.0.4 for a bit now I've found a new and bad bug. Typing in the search window causes the audio of the currently playing track to stutter big time. It only seems to happen for the first couple of characters entered but regardless it is definitely a big problem. Seriously, I run a clean machine (2.5 year old MacBook, 2.4 gHz, 4G Ram), this shouldn't be happening. Why the hell did I pay to crossgrade to Virtual DJ so I could get 6.0.4 only to find it sucks. STOP IMPLEMENTING NEW FEATURES UNTIL YOU GET THE BASIC ONES TO WORK!

Here is a laundry list of things that don't work on VDJ (so-called) Pro:

- entering characters in search window causes audio to stutter (and crash for a lot of people from what I've read).
- navigating anywhere in the config menu causes audio output settings to change or audio cuts out completely. Then it takes many presses of the 'apply' button to get it to work again (this didn't happen in any of the 5.0 versions so the software is getting worse!).
- STILL can't delete playlists within VDJ, including getting scenario when you name a playlist that already has the same name and VDJ asks you "That playlist already exists, are you sure you want to overwrite it?" and you say yes, but guess what, nothing changes, thanks for asking though.
- Still getting the warning message "Warning!!! The system was unresponsive blah blah blah" all the time when changing the sound configuration or exiting the program.
- master tempo/keylock still sounds like crap

And if I read one more response from someone saying "have you set your latency to 'auto'" as the blanket answer to address every performance related issue I'm gonna go postal!

P.S. - I'm on Snow Leopard.

Did you try running in Rosetta?

I just downloaded and I'm about to test 6.0.4. I also use M-Audio's Torq and I had to "Open using Rosetta" for Torq. Question is: Is this version of VDJ Snow Leopard (64 bit) compatible? See attached pic on how to set Rosetta. Off to test...

I've been testing but not using VDJ for a while now. I'm really trying to see if I can use it at gigs....

i just get my new mac anda i have the same problem of warning and also if you play music for a wile and then you stop playing for about 3 or 5 minutes when you star the next song is not in the right out I mean deck one goes out in channel 1 deck 2 in two ...well i have this problem after a wile is changing 2 goes out in 3 and 1 on 2 .....

any body else have this problem???

If you're using version 6.0.4 it is no longer supported for Leopard. The issues may be coming due to that. Its time to upgrade my friend.

Well I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I'm having problems. I've never heard of Rosetta so I'm gonna look into that.

Now wait just a minute! Isn't Rosetta an emulation software that enables to run old PowerPC-software on Intel-Macs? Why on earth would you try to run Virtual DJ on Rosetta?

Because the other guy said so. Now that I know what the hell Rosetta is I'm pretty sure it won't help me. In fact in theory it should render VDJ useless. In the info pane of VDJ there should be another checkbox right under "open with rosetta", one that says "just make this software work already".

When I set VDJ to open in Rosetta, it crashes everytime. So that's not a solution (for me). Yes Rosetta emulates, but it's not noticable with any other apps that use Rosetta. Right now (for gigs), I'm spinning on M-Audio Torq and it's using Rosetta. Solid as hell. It's just not 64 bit compatible. Wish it did video and I wouldn't be posting in this worthless Mac VDJ forum.

Personally I can't figure out the search in VDJ. It just sucks. So I search in iTunes and drag files from the Finder and drop them on a deck in VDJ.

I am having an issue with choppy video, especially when I am manipulating videos with the external CDJs. It looks like crap, all chopped up. And the audio is distorted.

Are there any tweaks that I can make to better the audio (and video)? Holy crap. ON THE MAC OS, this app is a waste of money.

Upgrade to What?? is the last version for mac on virtual vinyl..... I found the cure for that warning and is change the hardware....I need to change my sound card(virtual vinyl) to maya 44 usb this card is a 4 in and 4 out and it works with vv and mac.

MY POINT IS ..... WHY???? IF THE F%&/$$ BOX SAYS FOR WINDOS AND MAC AND IS NOT WORKING ON THE MAC!!!!!!!

I SEND A EMAIL TO GENERAL MANAGERS AND I HAVE NO REPLY ....IS THIS SUPORT???
I FOUND THE SOLUTION ON YOUTUBE....CAN YOU BELIVE IT???

Sorry man. I meant to say Tiger but wrote Leopard. it was a typo.

Update:

So I rewired my mixer/cable set up so Output 1 from VV soundcard goes to channel 1 on my mixer and Output 2 from soundcard goes to channel 2 (since this is what VDJ keeps resetting to) and that seems to have fixed the output issue.

As for the audio getting sketchy whenever I type in the search window: I think I've narrowed it down to a skin issue. I noticed that if i have a song playing on both decks and I conduct a search the audio goes wonky for a split second, but if I stop one of the tracks then type in the search window the audio is fine. I've tried with every skin and the result is the same. It seems that VDJ can't fully handle playing two tracks at the same time AND process the waveforms. Whether 2, 1 or no tracks are playing the CPU hovers around 25%. If I type in the search window with 1 track playing the CPU jumps briefly to about 40%, and with 2 tracks playing it briefly jumps to 50-60%. What's odd though is that loading a new track to a deck also causes the CPU to jump to 50-60% but the audio remains unaffected. I guess the temporary solution would be to stop one of the tracks before conducting a search which kinda sucks because when I'm in the zone doing a lot of quick mixes I shouldn't have to force myself to remember to constantly stop the track on the non-playing deck everytime. This issue did not exist in previous versions so I can't help but wonder why it's all of a sudden a problem.

Does anyone know of any tweaks that might help VDJ be able to play 2 tracks at the same time and still allow me to type in the search window without these annoying and scary audio glitches??? I should mention I've already followed all the tweak guidelines suggested in the forum like disabling the dock, turning airport off etc. I've also messed with the lead time, pitch settings, quality vs. fastest etc. I wish Mac OS still had the ability to designate how much RAM a program utilizes so I could beef it up a bit more. Help me pleeeeease! I really want to use this latest version of VDJ!

One other thing I should add is that the problem with the search engine only happens when the timecodes are active. If VDJ is in internal mode the problem doesn't occur.

Sounds like a latency / performance issue -- What settings are you using in your Performance Tab ?

I sorta of tried a bit of every setting, from 'fastest' to 'quality' and always setting latency to 'auto' (because I'm always seeing in other posts that 'auto' is the way to go). What setting is most likely to optimize my latency? I've never had performance issues before (ask my girlfriend lol). I wouldn't have thought it was a latency/performance issue seeing as my CPU never goes past 60%, but maybe latency/performance and CPU usage are two separate balls of wax?

Well I think I've figured it all out. It seems that after disabling "Read ID3 Tags", "ID3 Artist/Title" and "ID3 Comments" everything is running smoothly. After reading more into the manual I discovered that having the aforementioned options enabled was likely causing VDJ to work way harder to read the database during a search than it needed to. What I only now just discovered is that provided that all the tracks are scanned into VDJ (which they are in my case) all the same tag info is embedded within VDJ's database, so by disabling the options I'm no longer forcing VDJ to "double up" and look at two different things (the data from the original file and VDJ's database info). Correct me if I'm wrong but having the aforementioned browser options enabled would be like a librarian looking for "War and Peace" knowing full well where in the library the book is, but looking walking all the way over to the file card cabinet first then going to the shelf the book is on, instead of just going straight to the shelf from the get-go.

Can a team member verify my findings/analogy? And if anyone else has had the search window glitches like I had I hope my thread has helped.

I should add that now when I type in the search window the CPU only jumps from about 25% to 30% :D

I'm quite happy now because:

1) Despite what I thought before, my 2 year old MacBook is still very much up to par performance-wise
2) I can go back to using more CPU intensive settings for performance (latency, quality etc.) because to be quite honest I wasn't totally jazzed about the idea of having to get used to 'metallic' sounding scratches
3) I can finally join the 6.0 club and use all the awesome new features (a "clean database" function that actually works, scratch wave window, much improved timecode responsiveness, Netsearch etc.)

I did what you did and am still having those glitches with two turntables! ugh i dont know what to do this is so frustrating. Any other suggestions dizz?
