Hey!
My dad found his extremely old Sony SS-2030 Speakers and he is so passionate to use them. I think they are 30W nominal each and 50 W music...The sticker with all the info on it is gone so i googled and found these ratings here:

And at their house there is this weird audio wiring that goes around every single room that they don't use. So basically I need to connect an amp to one end of the cable and the other end will be connected to Sony speakers upstairs. Very funky, i know...
I couldn't decide what to do...i need a cheap home amp for this i think..but i can't decide if i should go for 40 w each or 75w each... i thought 75w could be a good idea as long as they are careful with it as then they could use the same amp in other rooms too?

Wow, those speakers are old skool! 1978 i think! Yikes! Either amp is fine. If you think you're going to use the amp for other home applications, go for the larger one. If not, the 45 watt amp will be just fine. It's for your parents, and these are old school speakers. You're gonna want to be gentle!

yeah i know..lol...they are ridiculously old skool...apparently they are from the first home audio system my dad bought...SO definitely i need to be gentle...that is why i wasn't sure about getting the 75W one but i think i would be fine if i keep the volume halfway thru maximum?
also where could i find similar amps? these were the ones i found first..never heard of the brand...could spend a lil bit more if i could get better one....thanks...

Why not check out some second hand amps.
There were quite a large number of fairly hi powered amps about in the late 80s up to the mid 90s. Kenwood/Technics and Sony all made some great amps in the 50 to 80W power bracket and most of them came with the facility to switch between system A and B speakers. You should be able to get hold of a realy good quality amp for verry little cash.

good plan...BUT i couldnt find a way out as i am not an expert on old skool technics/sony stuff...
there are millions of different models...and i think one big problem is they are all huge...i dont really have space for gigantic amps...
so i think i am better off getting a millenium amp instead...any help with that? thanks...

Generaly it pays top go for an amp which it more powerfull than the speakers as a low power distorted amp wil be more likely to damage your speakers. Even if they do eventually fail you can get inexpensive replacement drivers from lot of hobby component suppliers so dont panic if you do blow one.

Looking at the spec for this little amp I notice that the power output is loosley quoted as 75W. It gives no information on how that figure is produced.
Most domestic HIFI speakers of this era were 8Ohm and most amps of todays era are intended to produce their max output int a 4Ohm load
(Ohms is a mesurment of the speakers internal resistance/impeadence and is used to match speakers and amplifiers together).
Without trying to get too complex this amp will normaly produce 75W ish into a 4 Ohm load. Your Sony speakers will be 8Ohm. This is not a problem but the amp will only deliver roughly half of its available power into the 8Ohm speakers. So about 40 W max. this will work fine and not hammer the speakers.
The other plus factor here is that the amp should be able to run 2 pairs of 8Ohm units at the same time.
There is unfortunately no corrilation between the volume control position and the output power of the amp. At the end of the day if it sounds distorted turn it down. You should not run into any major issues with this little amp as I suspect its claimed power output is somewhat flatterring;-)

Hi mate
The Sony is a better amp but is rated for 100W into 8Ohms so is quite capable of frying those speakers.
In the budget range of HIFI amps you may want to have a look at some of the offerings from Rotel like the 1520 or even NAD's C315BEE.
