1) Anybody know of a "Karaoke Pool" like the mp3 download dj pools but for karaoke? If not, anybody know of a good, reasonably priced download karaoke service? Currently we use www.buykaraokedownloads.com . We only do karaoke occassionally when requested but I do need to upgrade my library as I only have about 5000 songs and it seems for karaoke you need about 65,000.
2) One of my djs has a party to play next week and they want mostly country. I have most of the "classic country" but I personally don't follow country and at most of my gigs the classic stuff (chatahoochee, redneck woman, save a horse, who's your daddy, etc.) gets me by, but these guys want some current and recurrent country from today and the last 3-5 years. I have access to the radio charts, but radio and dance country are quite different from what I understand. Anybody out there that is willing to provide me with a playlist of the top 10-15 country dance songs for each of the last 3-5 years? I know where to buy them, just need to know which ones to buy!
Thanks in advance with either need.

pm me your email address and i can send pretty much send everything we've played in the last 3-5 years. not that country around here changes much - they're a traditionalist crowd for the most part. sure the younger girls ask for crap by taylor swift but they'll also ask for older stuff too.
but remember that it's also a VERY regional thing - there might be places where they still play songs by The Dixie Chicks, but if i tried to play one of their songs around here i'd have an empty building in a heartbeat.
this thread from earlier this month might help too.

My 2cents...
You have to be careful when downloading Karaoke music. There are very few "legal" sources to get music, and by "legal", I mean that they have clearance by the record industry to either produce the song or release it digitally. I know Sound Choice and Pop Hits Monthly are eventually going to have a Digital Download section on their websites, but I don't think they've yet come to a deal with BMI, AASCAP, etc. It's kind of like iTunes in its infancy, they didn't have the vast library they do now because they didn't have the clearance to offer certain artists or songs as a digital download.
My mentor in all things Karaoke, the guy who back in the day brought Karaoke to my area (for better or worse haha), now owns a multi level club where the 1st floor is a Karaoke bar and the 2nd floor is a dance club. He had a subscription where he would get a cd every month with essentially 6 cd's of karaoke music on it already converted. He had that subscription for about a year or so and suddenly *poof* - company is gone. He called another service (Pop Hits Monthly I believe) and explained what he was getting from company "A" and was told that not only did that company have no clearance to offer that type of music delivery (6 mp3+g discs on 1 cd), there was doubt they had clearance to offer Karaoke songs at all.
So, getting back to Karaoke downloads - there are a number of sites out there, but it's difficult to know which ones are on the level (you have to watch your A** so you don't get in trouble with the leeches from the RIAA, AASCAP and apparently now the KIAA (?). I was using www.buykaraokedownloads.com, but I was told that they don't have clearance for alot of the music they are putting online. Another more trusted site IMO is www.tricerasoft.com/cgi-bin/KaraokeDownloads/index.asp
I guess it's "buyer beware", so my advice is to tread lightly in this area. hope it helps.

I don't think Sound Choice is going to be doing much in the future as they filed for bankruptcy about 2 months ago and it doesn't look like they will exist when they come out of it.
I am not worried about ASCAP/BMI/SECAM as that is the responsibility of the venue. RIAA only deals with braodcast licenses and lastly i heard the songs on Tricerasofts site were encoded so they will only work with their software......if they tell me to quit doing karaoke no great loss as we only do about 1 show a month.......but thanks for the info anyway

It's all good. However, you can in fact use karaoke songs from Tricerasoft's site with VDJ.
Hope that helps and Happy New Year!

Karaoke Downloads
I use http://www.tricerasoft.com I like there service and it is very legal. They do have a monthly digital subscription for I think $75/month. You can just buy individual tracks though. They also have gift pack that can safe you a couple bucks. When I started as a DJ they're software was my first DJ software. They have excellent customer support.

Buy CD+Gs online or at Sam Ash and the Guitar Center/gc.com or other retailers and rip them to your hard drive if you don't find what you need at Tricerasoft.com. I have done many karaoke tutorial videos regarding how to rip and run on VDJ.
