Sujet: Better way to rip videos?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I am using smartripper to rip promo only DVDs, and notice the quality of video playback is inferior to the quality of playing the actual DVD. Is this a factor of smartrippers capabilities or my video card? I am using a late 2007 MacBook pro which puts out a very respectable video signal through a dvi to High Def cable.

Is there a better way to get DVD quality out of our players? Maybe a diff codec than the general internal video codec? Maybe directly copyng the .vob file off the DVD and choppng it up in iMovie or final cut?

Btw I'm running windows 7 through boot camp.

can you not change the settings of smartripper?
If the playback quality is noticeably worse then the originally then I would "up" the quality settings.

myself I have converted .vobs to .mp4 with a 1:6 space saving and no noticeably loss of quality (have to look at video frame by frame & side by side to REALLY see the difference)

Since I have 2 TB of hard drive space, I've been ripping all my DVD's as .vob

If you are using PromoOnly (USA ONLY) I recommend this program. It will rip your DVD's and it will also name them for you. It can also automatically split the normally annoying intro's from the main video which saves drive space. I've used it for years and it works nicely.

The program is free or you can make a donation to the programmer if you wish.

Thank you so much for the replies. FYI, I have been ripping straight to VOB, whereas each video file is an average of 200 MB. I too am not concerned with space, as I am using a 2 TB drive. Quality is the goal here.

Thanks again everybody, and I will give all your suggestions a shot.
