The Maya44 is the cheap soundcard ;)

I don't really have any authority on the mater since I'm new to all this, but I was looking for sound cards myself. I found a Behringer U Control UCA202 for about us$25-30 that has ASIO driver support. Only trouble is, I don't know the quality of this card since I'm still looking around before I buy one, & also there is only one input & one output. But if you need two in's & if you have an open USB slot to sacrifice, you can buy two of these cheaper than one Maya44. The only thing I'm not sure is if VDJ can handle two ASIO cards at once. If not & you need two in's, I was also eying the Maya44 as the card for me...but if you only need one in, than you always have the option of the Behringer.
Of course this is all from a beginners perspective, I'm not sure how well all this holds up...I'm just piecing together what I can find on the interweb.

VDJ won't use two ASIO cards at once, you'll need to front them with something like ASIO4ALL.

That's what I've gathered from my intensive search through the interwebs & the VDJ forum, but my question (since I'm also looking into ASIO sound cards) if they are fronted in ASIO4ALL can you still time code with them individually.
Just to make the example clear; I have two turntables, each are hooked up to their individual sound card & both sound cars are hooked into the computer via USB. After I front them through ASIO4ALL will VDJ let me use both of my turntables as time codes or just one?

It appears as one card to VDJ with as many in/outputs as you have routed in ASIO4ALL, so yes, it should work. It's definately not the best solution though!
Another option (more involved, but more flexible) is Jack; I've used it in the past to route VDJ audio through Ableton ;)
The *best* solution is to have a single capable soundcard with as much I/O as you need.

You could try the Hercules DJ Trim sound card.
Or Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ.
Or Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ.

@SBDJ I'm going for something between cost efficient & functional. I just want to explore as many options as I can before making a purchase, with the reality that I don't really have the spare cash at the moment for even one UCA202, let alone a Maya44. As for your suggestion about Jack...what exactly do you mean? You mention Ableton & that seems like it'll get expensive, fast. But I'm open to anything...just need a little more detail than that. But you say that both my cheap two card solution should work, which gives me hope. I am very strapped for cash at the moment so I can't really shell out that much. I shall press on with more research before I decide which I will go with.
Thanks for your help & advice!
@jpboggis Seeing as how both the Hercules DJ Trim & Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ sound card both run at us$200 they are most likely out of the question, especially since the two card I suggested & was talking about were between us$25-70. You kind of missed the point. But thanks for the suggestions.

I got a super cheap KAM USBH100 Mk II sound card as I'm not up for paying £80+ for a sound card yet. I know, i know, all the snobs have probably turned their noses up at the Kam name already. However, it is not Kam as such, as I've seen exactly the same sound card with exact same specs retails for more but with various make stamps on them from American Audio to Kam to Numark. I think it's a generic model, with each company putting their own stamp on it and charging an rrp for that name stamp.
It only cost me £10 from Catapult Records in Cardiff, UK, but was ex-display (only thing was box ripped). The rrp on them are £39.99 I believe.
Plugs into my USB port and has line/phono selector, stereo phono in and out, a gain control and a ground to plug a turntable into it if you want. I only use the out as a second sound card to run deck 1 out of onboard sound card and deck 2 out of this USB sound card. There are probably better quality ones out there, but the output is crisp, clear and loud enough for my needs.
Perfect if you don't want to fork much out and want something better than the Behringer U-Control series for the same price.

sorry, but i just want to reiterate what he said..
If your going to be using timecode, using a cheap sound card is a BAD idea..
DONT blame VDJ if you end up having issues..

Being the somewhat resident expert on the Maya I thought I'd chime in. Maya is in the realm of cheaper sound cards, but it by no means an inferiror product. It is not directly supported by VDJ but does work fine if you are running Windows, and is actually very stable on 64 bit win7. I have been using this card for a year and it has never let me down. I've used it for both CD and vinyl timecodes without issues. check my sets on youtube to see for yourself. On the mac side of things it is a different case, and I'm not sure it will change in the near future. I find VDJ is far more stable overall in the PC world. I run my setup with Win 7 64 bit on a Macbook. My timecodes are on Numark CDX's. I also use Stanton SCS.3d's for effects and triggers. It's a good card for the money and gets it done until you have the dough for a Deejay Trim. I have used it in the club plugged into both Numark C series mixers and Pioneer DJM's.

ASIO4ALL does not run with VDJ very well. If you are aggregating cards, I would look into running on the mac side and use the build in aggregator.
