Hey all, first time poster - I'm not a big sound technician nor am I professional DJ. I am someone who likes to sing, particularly karaoke, and all the karaoke bars I go to use Virtual DJ and it seems simple enough to operate.

I was hoping to use this program to help me practice singing at home. I'm not sure if I'm properly geared up though. I have a regular microphone to sing into, but all I have to plug it into is the PC's regular sound card (had to get an 1/8 adapter for it, of course). The microphone works, I can do stuff in sound recorder and audacity, and I can make it record with VDJ, but that's it. I was hoping for something where I could sing "Real time" along with my videos, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make this work. One of the DJ's I spoke to said I just have to "click it on" (referring to the mic) in VDJ, but I can't find any "microphone" options or anything like that.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi mate

I would suggest you look at getting a small external mixer with a good mic input. I know this is only for practice but it would make a big difference. Plug the output of the mixer into your hifi or whatever and plug the laptop and mic into the mixer. The mic inputs on laptops are realy for the likes of Skype and are usualy not the best for sound quality.
