Wow!

Just had this happen to me in the club tonight. Playing gig with my NS7 and VDJ. Call comes over the radio from the manager. I go to answer him and as soon as I hit the transmit button on the radio, bam! The volume on VDJ is cut in half. I check the settings. Nothing appears to have changed but I can not get the volume to go back up untill I mix to the next song.

It's a proximity thing. Transmit too close to your controller and it cuts the sound to at least half normal volume. Don't know what is causing this but it is something with the controller because it never happens when running VDJ without the controller.

Anyone else have experience with this happening to them??

Yeah thats a known problem with walkie talkie radios, their is an enormous amount of energy that is emmited within a close proximity to them, when we are making recordings at my day job using any magnetic media we cannot get within 5 feet of the machines or they will get a dropout on the tape. The volume cut sounds like the same problem with static that guys have reported.

Strange thing is that I am not using my NS7 for audio, only for control. I am still getting my audio feed from my Mya USB card.

Don't ever leave your cell phone on top of an xponent or ns7. weird things will happen when it rings. Cell phone technology is based on walkie talkie technology.

Oh boy! I know this is leading into something!...let me guess...ET calls Home.. right?....NS7 goes in Da MIx BY ITSELF !...he!

oh its not just those walkie talkies - we have a whole line of clubs up and down the road we're on - and apparently the club next door was doing karaoke and it was bleeding over to our cordless mic! had to keep cutting out our mic from the board to stop it while i scrambled around looking for the manual to figure out how to change the frequencies for mic and reciever.... fun!

My company gives walkie talkies to all its employee and whenever we leave one near a computer and a call comes in or out it makes the computer's audio go crazy. I suggest you ditch the walkie talkie and use another method of communication.

BRING OUT THE SMOKE SIGNALS AND THE CORDS AND 2 CUPS>.ahahahhahahahah!!

So someone could just go get a cheap phone or walkie talkie, put it on silent or minimal sound, go up for a "song request" and leave the device nearby and and then constantly connect to it throughout the night.

Quick way to get a DJ fired or a bad reputation at least. Not good Ns7!

So would this be caused by porly on even non-sheilded cables inside the NS7???

Never experienced with with the RMX...

one of the reasons I upgraded from my Numark mixer to the Denon mixer is the Numark started to become a great cell phone detector LOL

any cell phone within 15 ft the noise would come across on the mixer (it wasnt the cables).

it could be anything inside.. a 1" loop of wire inside can act like a perfect antenna depending on its location and frequency of the transmitter..
Something on the circuit board itself can also be acting as an antenna, and if they didnt RF harden it, theirs nothing that can be done..

With my xponent I had my cell sitting on the internal mouse pad and when it rang the player stopped and all you heard in the club was my cell ringing.

With my ns7 I had my cell sitting on the mixer section and when it rang the volume lowered to almost nothing on the main gain.

Rule of thumb: Turn off cellphones before gig.

No good if you're using FireText or need to use your cell during your gig!

I was just gonna say that...

Yeah Im looking into getting new decks & mixer. Ns7 was a possibility. Its a definate NO after discovering this hardware fault. Hope someone in Numark reads this forum. How can you possibly conceive of making such an expensive piece of hardware and not have proper shielding?

How did it even get past the testing phase? Most DJ's keep their phones close to the decks don't they? I often get people coming up with their mobile phone showing a text of what song they want and I couldnt risk them getting a call or text at the same time.

I could see a few Ns7's being returned over this.

It's NOT just Numark... Don't let this stop you from buying it.

Its not just Numark, my denon mixer will also pick up cell phones.. (and an old EV mixer from way back when)

the difference is my numark cm200 does it at 15ft, where as the denon only does it at 1 FT..

Of course the Numark just simply got worse with time.. (probably spilled pop on it one to many times )

As you all have noticed, everything can become an antenna. While using turntables (many years ago) at a club close to a parkway, I occasionally got state police squawk coming through the magnetic cartridges. We are bombarded with Electric and Magnetic Fields, from every direction. Some of the pops, clicks, and other noises we hear through our systems, can be directly attributed to theses fields. A while back, I wrote about my computer shutting off, after coming back into the booth, at the club I worked at. It only happened in the winter months, and was caused by the static build up from walking across the carpet in the booth. Sprayed the carpet every shift with water, problem solved. Another problem is that poor quality control is the norm, so do not be surprised if you get different results, from identical products. Just to scare you a little more, how many of you still put your cell phones to your ear, instead of using a ear piece?

A bit off topic now sorry but some evidence has shown that using an ear piece channels the radiation more directly from the phone straight into your ear and closer to your brain and a bluetooth ear piece is supposedly much worse also.
