Hey gang,

So far everything is going well. I have a situation that I would like feedback from users so that the application works the way you want it to. If you can read the following scenario and let me know what you think I would appreciate it.

The application allows you to load data from the VDJ Database (XML), Folder(s) (user selection) and/or Playlists(s)

In the "Patterns" section, if the user loads data from the database or folder there is no default way to know what media follows what media without scanning playlists. So I was thinking that one solution would be that when the application loads it automatically scans all hard drives and all directories within those folders for playlists (*.M3U). This way when the user loads data it can use the list of playlists to compare what was played when. (say "lists of playlists" 3 times fast without a lisp... anyway)

On my machine, the process of going through all my drives (5 drives for a total over 2 tb and who knows how many folders/files) took 6 minutes. This process can run in the background so it won't stop you from doing other activiies.

I could also just scan the playlists in the VDJ/Tracklisting folder.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
James

I agree with your proposal and the PlayList would give you a bases to derive the "patterns".

Good Job James.

Thanks,

Ok, I thought about this last night and this morning and I think I have the correct solution. Please review and let me know what you think.

The "Patterns" section should only allow the user to load playlists as the patterns can only be determined by the user loading specific playlists and not folders, files or the database. Each of the last three items cannot give the user any value as to what was played when.

So with that in mind when the user is on the "Patterns" tab the "Add Playlist" menu option will be available, but not the "Add Folder", "Add Database" menus.

Does this sound right to you people?

Peace,
James
