Hello,

Please precise which version of VirtualDJ you use (for example VirtualDJ 5.2.2 DJC), on which operating system (for example Windows XP SP3), and with which DJ Control Steel drivers (for example the driver package 2009_HDJS_4).

And also what soundcard are you using :-)

You may need a 4.0 or better soundcard. In this way you can have 1&2 or FRONT SP Out for MASTER and 3&4 or REAR SP OUT or HEADPHONES OUT for headphones. It depends on the brand and model of your soundcard.

I use my onboard soundcard. i use the first 2 ports (front and sub) for the main speakers, and the rear speaker port for the headphones.
I have windows XP and all drivers are up to date.
These are my sound settings in virtual DJ.

outputs : headphones
sound card : 4.1
Master : front output/headphones : rear output.
I can use the monitor knob, that works fine but the volume one just doesnt work :S

Hello,

I repeat the same question as in my former message: which version of VirtualDJ do you use?
Is it VirtualDJ 5.2.2 DJC or is it another version, and, if it is another version, please detail it?

virtual dj version 5.2 with steel skin, which sucks because it does not have the record config feature...but thats another problem lol

Hello skinnypete05r,

1) You should go to the download center, and download VirtualDJ 5.2.2 DJC for Steel.

2) Can you try switching in ASIO instead of 4.1 sound card?
If your sound card has no ASIO mode, you can install it with ASIO4ALL http://www.asio4all.de/.

http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/6895/Hercule_DJ_CONTROL_STEEL.html

I installed that skin, top right there is a headphone volume knob, still no luck, it doesnt move when i turn the knob on my controller.

i previously installed asio but i had some problems with it, the sound went muffly and if i got the sound good, then the controller would be very laggy whist cueing another song and using effects etc.

skinnypete05r,

In case you use VirtualDJ 5.2.Pro instead of VirtualDJ 5.2.2 DJC, then you can also map the headphones volume control in General MIDI mode.
- Go to VirtualDJ Config > Remote Control > Activate the General MIDI mode.
- Right click on General MIDI, and click on Config
- Click on Add, and turn the Headphones Volume knob; the General MIDI command is Control 71
- In the list of commands, select headphone_volume and click on OK
- In the MIDI Config List, you see the line CTRL 71 headphone_volume.

And you now control your headphone volume in VirtualDJ with the headphone volume button of the DJ Control Steel.

thanks for your reply!
i went to midi controller and clicked "Add..."
i then clicked system volumes in the left list of options and clicked the "headphone_volume" option and clicked ok.
however, when it goes back to the "midi config" window, there is no "headphone_volume" in the box, just a white box...

Hello Skinnypete05r,

Please confirm you follow these steps

1) Go to VirtualDJ Config > Remote Control

2) Right click on General MIDI and select Activate: the General MIDI logo becomes green

3) In MIDI Config menu, click on Add

4) Turn the headphones volume button: the MIDI command CTRL 71 is displayed in the Shortcut menu

5) Select the headphone_volume command in the list

6) Click on OK

7) In MIDI Config display, you should see the line CTRL 71 headphone_volume.

8) Click on OK.

9) As long as you keep the General MIDI mode active, you control the headphones volume with DJ Control Steel headphones volume rotary knob.

hey, thanks for the guide i really appreciate you taking the time to help me.
ok, so when i right click the general midi... and click activate, the console to the right has a green square around it, however the general midi just stays red... guessing this is the problem?

Hello Pete,

If the General MIDI logo turns red when you activate it, it means VirtualDJ detects no General MIDI device, so
- either the MIDI driver of DJ Control Steel is not properly installed,
- or VirtualDJ is not properly installed.
Please check if DJ Control Steel is properly installed.

1) Open DJ Control Steel panel, and check if you can change the MIDI channel (from 1 to 2 or 2 to 1(default)) => Does it work?

2) If you could change the MIDI channel, right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware
- Click on Device Manager
- Develop the line Sound, video and game controllers
- Is the line Hercules DJ Control Steel MIDI displayed there?
- Right click on this line Hercules DJ Control Steel MIDI and click on Properties
- if the status says this device is properly working, then the issue lays in VirtualDJ installation.
- If the status says the device is not properly working, then you should re-install DJ Control Steel drivers.

Hey! thanks for your replies! i got it sorted :)
i went to device manager and resinstalled my drivers, now everything works A OK, thanks once again!
