Dancing is an emotion. Not a gimmick. Play what moves the collective asses of the patrons and you'll need no tricks....

You are correct sir, that is it, period.....

Joey.....

Gimmicks usually come across as corny and make you look like a cheeseball. A great "tactic" is to play a ballad that is popular for both your crowd and demographic...Summer Wind, Have I told You Lately, Unforgettable, Can't Help Falling in Love, etc. One or two of those will most certainly generate some populating of the dancefloor. Once you have a few couples out there, you can judge which genre to go with and keep em there!

I dont do anything interactive to "get people dancing"..
most of my interactive stuff is done before hand..

This is what we do!

Works every time guys & maybe for the gals too lol

But seriously, I hardly even say a word unless it's an announcement. It's ALL about the right flow of music & reading the crowd is the key to success at weddings, stag & does or any party outside of a nightclub atmosphere.

And if your one of those guys who wear a 'Sequined' shirt or vest, do me a favour & stop it! lol I actually will colour co-ordinate my shirt & tie with the theme of the event. I do not wear a tux either because that takes away from the wedding party, it's THEIR day NOT yours gang.
Also no ad banners at a wedding, only my business name on the request cards at the tables.

But OTHER than that it's ALL about the MUSIC! lol =)

P.S. if you really get them going with your good tunes the crowd will do their OWN skits trust me lol

LOL, Robin! I saw this video before, cracks me up! What in the hell was he thinking?!

i just watched it hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
that is unbelievable

rock the boat is a good one to do at weddings that always fills the floor...
it must be stress thou make sure all the games and stuff like that are allowed by the bride first..

ha, Terry, "collective asses". that's good.

I love that video, laugh my a$$ off everytime I see it.

Well say the center piece give away like the dollar dance are the any other skits that some of you do to give them away ..... And the boob boxer was not funny that was sad?

As has been said reading the crowd is what works best.... Remixes or mega-mixes or quick trip mixes are not needed or usually wanted at weddings....

Good beat mixing or sequaying (sp) are really all that you need as long as you are choosing the right songs.

Anyone ever work a mobile gig where they put you in a room away from everyone else. Haven't had it happen in a while. Had it on Sunday and I was fishing all day! Worse yet the party was by the water, all of the guests were outside under a tent by the water and I was inside with no air and it was 80 degress out and about 90 inside. Still did get some to dance though :) but extreme conditions I tell ya!

Word of warning for wedding's be cautious when taking some requests at wedding, only play songs that are tried and tested NEVER play new music as it will not get a crowd up.

Stick with the party classics (i.e. Jessie’s Girl, The Nutbush, Mickey, Boom shake The Room, Love Shack)

These are songs that get a crowd up in Australia, another good reference is the Mobile Beat Top 200 songs.

The Nutbush- by Tina and ike Tuner, Michey- by toni basil, and Boom Shake The room by- Dj Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. I know music make the party, and we all do that well on our side of the world. But do you do anything else to get personal with the crowd to let the laugh at themselfs, and bring fun on the floor, am I wrong to not to ask than to just stay behind the box and the music? What do you do?

I guess the one thing you need to determine is...What type of DJ are you? I'm a dance DJ. People contact my company because they want to dance. At weddings I start off with the classics (depending on your crowd this could vary). I never invite people to the dance floor unless the B&G specifically told me to do so. People can tell it's dancing time by the change of volume and the type of music you play.

Now, I know there are other DJs that are considered more entertainers than DJs (in my opinion). These are usually the people that have the limbo poles, inflatable guitars, etc. I'm not qualified to give you advice on that style of DJing.

But in all cases, play the music that they want to hear (hardly ever cutting edge) and you will do fine. Take requests but remember you are the captain of the ship. If it's not wedding appropriate or if it's not the right time, don't play it. You may want to go to another DJ or company that does a lot of weddings and volunteer to carry stuff for them. This way you can learn different ways to do things without messing up your reputation.

"I don't know"?? I don't do Cheese-Stuff at weddings, I am that Captain an run a great ship, I also invite something else and I think you guy have not hear it yet. Sorry,
