Hey guys I'm new to Djing but def not new to hip hop and the club scene. If you guys could give me some advice as to what to start out with because I'm on a tight budget but I am very interested in being a DJ. What sort of things should I purchase first? Budget $200?

Do you mean you get 200 bucks a day, week, month?? Cause 200 really isnt that much to work with. What kind of dj do you wanna be, what do you want to use(CDJ's, Turntables, A Controller). Kinda need a little more info.

No but seriously $200??? thats not really going to get you anywhere Just a bare minimum bedroom dj setup is going to cost you atleast 500$ if you want to be a cdj, turntable, or midi dj. Im just a bedroom dj and my ns7 virtual dj and speakers runs for about $2000. Virtual Dj pro alone is $300. But If you are serious about becoming a Dj I suggest you save your money do a lot of reaserch on what type of Dj you want to be and which type of equipment suits your needs then buy a startup kit or something.

OK, more seriously, $200 could get you started, if you already had some decent monitors and the type of computer you are currently using. You could get a Numark DMC2 controller, which I believe comes with VDJ LE. RIP a couple CDs and you're off and running. You'll have to mix with the mouse and you wouldn't be able to preview the songs, but it will get you started. But, to get more serious, it will cost more money. How much? That depends on where you want to take this. $1000.00 would be enough for a good bedroom DJ set-up, at least $3000.00 if you want to go mobile. Be careful with your money, look for good used gear, research before buying and you can make this happen.

Yea... well I'm goin to college so I'm pushed for money right now like any college student is. I guess I wasn't clear on my question. I was asking what sort of things should I purchase first so I can start the process. I guess VDJ Pro is a must but I was thinking about VDJ basic but that would probably be a bad investment in case I wanted to really become a dj. Are their any packages I could purchase that already have the software, all-in one mixers, etc.? Or do you have to buy VDJ Pro to even think about djing?

I realize money is tight when your going to school. Buying cracks off some auction site, however, will only cause you more headaches in the long run. Save up and buy VirtualDJ pro. You'll be glad you did ;-)

@ DJ Club Love. The best advise i can give you is... Save more money and buy when you have alot more. DJ's are not going anywhere in a long time ok. It will be worth the wait.

Actually VDJ Basic would be perfect for you..
and the money you spend on it can be used as credit if you upgrade to the Pro version!
(so actually a GOOD investment)
