Sujet: Projector Problem... SOmething went Pop!!!

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Had to happen.... The first time I set up with a big screen and my projector something goes wrong...

Initially everything was fine. I coudl see my extended desktop on the screen. However when I started VDJ the extended display went white. Before I had a chance to turn the projector off there was a pop/bang from inside the unit and then the power went off...

I've taken the bulb out - and that looks fine - doesn't look blown and with the bulb out I triued to power on the projector but I don't get th unit in standby - but then there maybe a failsafe.

I'm wondering whether its a capacitor thats blown... Would be a bugger if it has!!!

Cheers,

Roy

not been smart mate but did you check the fuse in the plug or a loose connection in the mains cable

Checked everything... Changed fuses, different IEC leads, etc...

Anyway got on to InFocus support this morning and WOW!!!! Even though I bought it secondhand it's still covered by the original 3 year warranty - of which there is still over a year left...

Anyway, after speaking to the InFocus agent, he agreed with me that it must be the power supply inside the projector that had gone pop as I was not getting any LED display on the unit.

Expecting the worst I was completelt flabbergasted when he told me that as it was under warranty, they would ahve a replacement unit, with new lamp, on my doorstep before the end of the week. They woudl simply take the faulty unit off me at the door!

How's that for service... Turning out to be the best £100 I've spent in a long time ;-)

Cheers,

Roy

Infocus is a wonderful company, good products backed by GREAT sevice. Sorry your gear took a dump in the middle of a show but glad its only a short-term loss with no $$ out of pocket.

Hey Roy, you jammy....

lol

Funny you should say that... I've been called a Jammy B*****D several times today already.

All I will say is, if you are looking at getting a projector, InFocus now get my vote even though I didn't know about this beforehand.

Worth checking what other vendors do. In our line of work, being able to have the unit replaced on the doorstep is a godsend.

Same applies to PC/Lappy maintenance...

Roy

unfortunately i've just recently bought a second projector from another manufacturer, just hope this projector company has the same excellent service as yours, christ bugger it, gonna go looking on ebay for a third... lol

Hey,

Sounds like the ballast transformer went which is part of the power supply. It can be repaired but will run you up to $200 or so. I have experienced this many times having over 60 projectors in my care at the University where I work. We have found that using a good surge protector can help in these cases such as the Tripp Lite models. Good that it is covered under warranty though.

Good luck,

DGee

Probably was, don't really care as they are coming to swap it out on Monday ;-)

Happy days,

Roy
