Sujet: NS7 feeze issue

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Last night I had been playing automixed music for about 4 hours. For the rest of the night, I started mixing Top 40 and videos. I didn't have a glitch for about 6 hours total.

Then the sound dropped a couple times and then silence, in the middle of a song playing on deck B. I don't remember touching anything at the time, deck A was already cued up. It was like VDJ was frozen for that deck because I could not control deck B at all (no screen response from buttons). I was able to start deck A and fade over, but then the Key jumped high pitch (it did not start playing that way). That wouldn't work, so I got deck B to start from the beginning, faded back and all was fine for the moment.

Key point here, I noticed that both decks had the keylock turned off after that happened. I faded in my iPod on a seperate mixer (because the aux port is not working in VDJ yet) so that I could restart VDJ. When I did that, everything came back up except for keylock on deck B only. But I was able to manually turn it on this time (unlike before the restart).

So, I rellay don't know what happened. Here are the specs:

Latest NS7 drivers 2.8.24
VDJ 6.1
Vista 32 bit HP laptop (upto date) - Wifi off
Core 2 duo P8400 2.26 GHz processor
2 GB ram
Defraged the night before with Perfect Disc 10
44 gig of HD free on a 150 gig partiton

My theory: what I know about the system, 512 is usually the USB buffer setting I have to use. However when I use Itch, it usually bumps the drievr down to 128. In VDJ I have distortion with Keylock on, when resetting the BPM to 0 with anything under 512. I don't have that issue with Itch, meaning 128 is fine. I tried to match Itch's settings as best as possible in VDJ and found that if I set the RPM to 33 in VDJ, I can run 256 with little trouble (I had played 6 hours upto that point). I had used it that way for a week before the show but never played 6 hour sets, so this was the first night out with that setting. I am not sure if 33 RPM would make a difference but less RPM should be less time stamp data right?

What buffer settings are you guys able to use? I find 512 to be a little slow and would really like to improve that.

I mostly mix Top 40 and Hip Hop. I use Keylock currently because even at 6% range, I hear a noticeable pitch difference if I don't. Do you guys use keylock? I am interested for opinions on this as well because I can run ALLOT lower setting without it. Also seeing as how this freeze seems to involve keylock, I really want to know if the audience or other DJs care if I turn it off.

Thanks for reading

To add some info, There was no crash report because VDJ did not crash (per say) or close. No windows events were reported. I wish I took a screen shot but I was caught by surprise and did not think of it at the time. It really looks like nothing happened (Windows or VDJ) and from what I see, it must be the combination of keylock and too low of a USB buffer (audio latency).

I am still learning to mix and still would like advice on using keylock. Is is important? Do most Top 40 and hip hop DJs use keylock? Do I have to mix with keys now If I choose not too? I practice allot (everyday) but I still have a way to go and I am trying not to get dicouraged.

It´s happen also to me few times. The problem was overheating of procesor.
Youn should also upgrade RAM to 3 Gig. 32-bit system can´t handle more than 3Gig.

I will look into the ram, but the lappy was out on the NS7 stand. Which allows for TONS of air all around. Now me on the other hand! I started sweating to fix it, but that is another story. Just trying to put all the evedence together. Sound like I am the only one which points to settings even more. Thanks

I am still looking for advice if the more experienced DJs use keylock. Is it important to use in Top 40 and Hip Hop mixing? Or do I have to start hamonic matching now if I want to stop using it?

Any advice guys? I am still very new to this and really want some pro DJ advice. Until I got the NS7 a couple months ago, I really just played music with little skill.
