Sujet: Mac Vs PC.. Thoughts..

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Ok so I've made the jump to a Mac last month from a PC but... All the good effects for video & audio are only for PC. When Macs are built way better for all that video and audio mixing. It seems as if the Mac VDJ rev. isn't all set up right as I've run into a lot of road blocks in setting up my sound card to setting up little video trans. one thing I would like to see in the Mac rev. is scrolling text. I use this software at big school dances, Bars ect where Scrolling text would be great to say congrats to class of 2011, taking requests, $3 dollar shots ect. "DJ power" and "Mix emergency" are two companies I know are doing it and works great. Another great upgrade would be a lighting control built into the software and goes to your music. What are some of your thoughts on Mac VDJ vs. PC VDJ?

Basically that the Mac version needs a lot of work, but the company are aware of this and I guess have a roadmap to get it to the same standard as the Windows one. It is sort of getting unusable for me after a few months because of database issues.

I don't have the time to sort things in Windows all the time then convert the database back to Mac. It really should just work. Simple little things like the missing BPM adjustment window should have been sorted before now. Sorry if I'm sounding negative but it seems to take forever for bug fixes and improvements to be implemented.

Plugins are developed by users and if the user doesn't have or doesn't know how to code for a mac then it's Windows only.

DMX control is something that has been covered previously, but I don't think there was a firm commitment to make this part of VDJ. There are free DMX programs out there that do the job well for basic setups.

I personally prefer the quality of Mac machines and the brilliant OS but VDJ just isn't there yet sadly.

I would not trust the lightining DMX program on the same system, if the DMX part goes down, so the whole thing including VDJ goes down. DMX programs are not heavy on resources, I use an old centrino laptop with Win XP for lights and the Mac for VDJ. Far safer I think. As for the VDJ version of Mac, keep the faith, try reading Serato VSL help forums and you would see how stable is the Mac VDJ system if you have the adecuate Mac (besides they always have problems related to MP4 and Handbreak and stuff, we just use the .vobs as they come). It's been mentioned on the forums by reps that now that the PC version is really stable they will focus a lot more on the Mac side. As for me, I miss the text and logo plug ins too, but I am shure they will come, I prefer Mac core audio and OSX stability over the effects I am missing.

Good luck.

Stability is not the issue, it is the fact the mac version is incomplete vs the Windows one.

Anyway, I am sure this will be sorted in time.

I agree. The Mac version is nice and stable for the most part, I have had one bug not sure if its worked out or not yet but when searching and you click to the front it would lock up, but when setting it up the way VDJ says, You cant. Another draw back that i bumped into the other day as well, Was I have been using my windows VDJ for 3 or so years and i made the move to Mac and all my playlist are gone. I can see them but i cant use them. The Mac version should be way more powerful for Video/Audio mixing then the PC. Macs are the best system all around. Your also right about the DMX software I remember it was in there at one point. It would just be nice to have a great software that works and mixes with all the bells! A screen and keyboard lock would be nice for when leaving the booth no one can touch it..

As has been said above plugins are user developed.

I don't presently have a Mac to develop plugins on and with my situation being as it is at present I can't see me buying one in the near future. Hackintosh is not a viable solution either at present.

Screen and keyboard lock can be implemented at skin level or OS level.

I did offer to implement DMX control (again PC only) and indeed did implement a version that filled my needs. There was however very little demand for it so I didn't waste my time continuing the project.
