I used to work in tandem with another DJ. He was a CD audio only DJ, and I had the videos.
It was his gig. He would select the songs. If I had the video I would mix it in as soon as possible. Then he'd take his CD out and go get the next one. If I didn't have the video I'd put on something bizarre like the Three Stooges... and video scratch them to the beat.
I had a lot of fun with the Obama, McCain, Palin Hip-Hop dance off. My most requested video.
Sometimes it is a little tough to sync his CDs to my videos especially if he had a re-mix version. It wasn't too bad if he told me what song was next ahead of time, then I could cue up the video and sync it quickly.
All good,

There were two guys that were at a music festival I just did that worked in tandem. The way they worked was one would mix for a bit and they would both control effects and stuff (they were using a midi keyboard to control everything) then the second person would pick out a track to mix in when they would swap out. Basically they were helping each other and supplying an extra set of hands/fingers to control the mapped out midi functions of the keyboard. It was pretty awesome to watch actually...Not so fun to follow, lol. I think there are some Youtube vids around of them mixing at the festival I will try to find them.

Sometimes they do a bit each, sometimes one selects the tunes and the other mixes them, sometimes one keeps his head down doing the technical stuff and the other "bigs it up" with the crowd, and sometimes one has an extra piece of kit (groovebox, Ableton laptop) to add elements over the basic mixing. Depends on the duo, to be honest - my DJing partner and I back in the day used to go one after the other, me warming up and him following.

digital "Carousel" anyone?
we just play off each other and it kinda turns into a contest to see who can have the most people on the floor, but usually when he's mixing, i'll be running the lights and effects and run interference with the customers so he can concentrate until it's my turn again.
two dj's working together really does take a load off your shoulders, plus you can bounce song ideas off each other if you get stuck - you know those times when you're mixing and the song has less than a minute to go and you get distracted or have a complete mental blank out about what to play next? yeah. like that.
