Hi everyone,

I'm new at using VDJ and have been practicing for the last month...

I just did my first real job using only VDJ and only had a few small issues.

>>> Connected everything but forgot to set it up using my mixer and sound card... oops quick fix...
>>> While mixing early I entered a song which made the gain sound terrible... close VDJ reopen (30 minutes before being on the clock)
>>> Forgot how to search for BMP... :(
>>> On one song, I continued to get that my system wasn't connected to internet... I'm not sure yet if this was VDJ or my new Seagate external hard drive trying to connect to the internet... Music did NOT stop playing... :)

Note to self:

>>> I need to continue to practice and re-note my sets since not all are clearly marked... (I use the comment section to denote my sets)
>>> Practice trouble shooting my system better...
>>> Understand VDJ and finish reading the owner manual...

Does anyone have any others suggestion I should be doing...???

Lastly, since I do a lot of wedding how do some of you create your play lists...

>>> With iTunes...???

Example:

>>> Ceremony selections
>>> Intro selections
>>> 1st Dance selections
>>> etc, etc, etc...

Thanks

Thanks for your reply...

Pain in the ass sometime have good points but a poor way of making their point... hahaha

Let me help you (and others) understand my point better...

>>> VDJ worked Great...
>>> Mixing music was fun and easy using VDJ...
>>> I've been DJ'ing for over 12 years now using PCDJ RED 5.2 which still is my fallback software...

My question...

How do you setup your VDJ for a Wedding Play List...???

Do you:

>>> Create a client directory and sub-directories...???
>>> Use iTunes by creating play list within it...???

Is there another way which I haven't listed which I should look into...???

Thanks

CapDog, I don't do weddings, so not sure if this will help. You can create a playlist by drag&drop you songs over the the right sidelist (panel) in the VDJ browser area. Put the songs in the order you want, right click on the + sign, and at the bottom of the list is save. Name it whatever you want. It will then show up in the playlist folder on the right side of the vdj browser area. Not sure about subfolders, never tried it. Hope that helps

If I'm forced to partake in the sacrilegious dj behavior of a wedding dj I use virtual folders to setup everything.

Thanks guys...

I will have a look at those two other options...

For your information, here is what a standard play list may look like:

_____ Intro song for the Bridal Party
_____ Intro song for the Bride and Groom

_____ Basic Lunch or Dinner music they may like to to include

_____ Cake Cutting song (s)

_____ First Dance with B & G
_____ With Bride and Father
_____ With Groom and Mother

_____ Basic Dance songs which the Bride and Groom would like me to include during the open dancing (normally about 10 songs or so)

_____ Songs for Shows, Games, or line Dancing

_____ Last Dance song they may like me to play

I Can NOT forget the

The Do NOT Play List

:)

Again thanks and I will have a look at you have suggested...

There is money in there weddings...

:)

Cad, If you haven't found it, there is a user guide on your system that will answer alot of questions and put you at ease.
We all came from Red btw, I remember you from back then.

Cyder is right, but playlists will save the order folders will not I believe.
So if you want a certain order of songs, I would use the playlist method.

The playlist opens by hovering over the right record case tab that says playlist and locks with the pad lock at the bottom of the playlist browser.

Cad ... i didn't think i was harsh ....

you must have encountered couples who are very poor at communicating what music

they want ? specific details always dispel confusion ...when you start troubleshooting , whether it's

people or hardware or software , if you or me or any of us can do it .....

when we are correct , specific , and polite that is very helpful .....

and we seem professional .... well, for people with weird names and avatars , anyway

i was trying to make another point ...why do that to yourself or customers ??

new stuff is exciting .... a little too exciting , sometimes ....

work stuff at home and really push it , and you find out what it can do

just don't be in a rush to do it "live"

there are a lot of great ways to get organized with this software

i use favorite folders and virtual folders and filter folders ......

you can look through history files at segments from a live show from last week , that was really good ,

compile a playlist from the best of that .....

another good way to get organized .... keyboard shortcuts for windows and VDJ ....

W7 jumplists .....

I didn't think you were enough...

I never read thing thinking people are being harsh (as you put it)...

Unless you tell me directly I'm SOB I would never think that...

This helps me sleep better at night... hahaha

The gig I first really used VDJ was a back yard family get together...
One of those last minute thing where the client called me a couple days before.
It was only a couple of miles from my homes...

Basically a backyard pool and driving party... hahaha
The client was very happy with the mixes I put together
and he never hear me miss a beat...

But I work way hard then i would because of the new software...
It will be a few more month of practice before I will feel ready to use it as a wedding or formal event...

No worries I can and have taken many jobs in my days...

But I did understand your under lying message...
(practice and practice stop read and practice some more)...

:)

I relabel my important songs with 001 at the beginning so they show at the top of my folder list or playlist. So I will create a playlist based on the bride and grooms suggestions, and save it as the date - 11sept. Then relabel any special songs, first dance might be ACDC - back in Black, so I relabel it in info to 001st Back in Black - after the gig I change the names back.

Cad... Another former Red user aswell as FX user. My advice to you is SCAN all of your music in VDJ for BPM.. This will take care of the gain issue you are seeing. Also if you want to adjust the gain +/- set your Auto Gain settings to "Auto+Remember" this will set your gains to 0 then whatever you change it to, it will remember your changes!! :)

And like Rick said playlists may be the way to go. I am not a wedding guy, but if I need to set up an evening in multiple "breakups" I may set a Dinner, Dancing, etc all with the event date after so I can easily go to these and play!

you can create pairs (2 song strip club dancer sets) or entire playlists out of comments ....

for strip club ....

dancer name .....chlamydia .....

1st song send the pain below ......in comments write chlamydia xca
2nd song every day is exactly the same ...in comments write chlamydia xcb

when you search chlamydia or chlamydia xc those songs result ....

i use x to mean a pairing for a dancer ......the next letter is the pairing name

and the next letter is always a for 1st song or b for 2nd ......

mini filter folders without the script ......

you could do that for more than 2 songs of course

for mobil work you could make "pairings " of 6 or 8 songs in the same bpm range and/or genre

and roll with 6 or 8 songs b4 changing things around......

i have the dancer names on there songs and comments are always visible in the browser and playlist queue

so when i look at the queue i see chlamydia chlamydia , xtacy xtacy ,lexa lexa, etc

i demo'ed pcdj but i was never a licensed user .....

pcdj seems to be slowly slipping away ....they weren't much presence at

the DJ XPO ...

Tip:

1. Open Winamp
2. Create the playlists you wish on the Media Library
3. Save all the playlists on a folder on your hdd as m3u files
4. On VDJ set this folder as "Favorite"

Now, when you click on this "Favorite" folder it shows your playlists as "sub-folders" and when you click on it it shows the contents of it on your browser.

A "VDJ Only" way to achieve the same results is:

1. Drag & Drop tracks on your playlist on the left side of screen
2. Drag them in the order you want them to appear
3. Click on the "+" sign and save the playlist
4. Clear the playlist and start over to create a second one, third one, e.t.c.
5. Open "My Documents\VirtualDj\Playlists" folder
6. Find your playlists and move them to a new directory
7. Set this new directory as "favorite" on VDJ

First of all...

Thanks for all you great ideas and
I will be going one by one
to find which is best for me and
what I need it to do...

Also, which way is easier and less steps... :)

Another reason I went with VDJ is because
I was taking hours creating play lists for my event using RED 5.2.

I have done a play list using iTunes for VDJ but wanted to know of other ways...
I also wanted to know and understand how I could just use VDJ to do the same thing...

I will continue to practice and try all the method you guys have told me about.

Thanks again for all your help and guidance.

It is nice to find help and quickly as I have here...

i'm just gonna stand over here in this corner , and wear this lampshade .....
